This was a good call. We had planned a couple of other venues but being a Tuesday, decided not to bother booking. To be fair, many places had loads of space. The two we chose both being full, we had a quick scan around and were lucky enough to get a table here. Many after us were less fortunate. The menu isn't massive but it's varied and more traditional than other places we went to. The food was good and it was portioned correctly in my view; you want to be able to enjoy a varied meal and some places we went, the portions are so large you have two courses and get rolled home. Portion size here was perfect. We were able to enjoy the whole experience. The staff were amazing, so friendly and attentive. We think this is a family run restaurant based on how well everything is done. If it isn't, then even more kudos to them. The menu is in Italian only (not an issue for most things but a couple of things were googled) but I applaud this as being a sign they don't rely on a tourist market. An easy 5 star rating. Couldn't picture everything as we fell on it...
Read moreAl Cancelleto is a very special place - one of those restaurants you stumble into and immediately feel at home.
Authentically Sicilian and family-run for over 60 years, you are treated to a real Palermo experience.
The food is freshly made and fantastic, particularly the fresh pasta with prawns which is one of the best pastas I’ve had in Sicily.
The prices are incredibly honest and throughout it the service is impeccable, constantly checking to make sure you are happy with the food and refilling bread.
We bonded with the owner who is a marathon enthusiast and shared with us all his secrets from running the Palermo half-marathon. We got on with him so well that we came back the next day, having run the half marathon, to share with him our times and experiences running.
This meal was even better than the first and after many more conversations with the owner, we took the smiling photo below.
I would really recommend anyone who is in Palermo to pop by for a lunch or dinner, you...
Read moreCame here for an early dinner as a group of 5. I’d advise booking as we were lucky to find a table as the restaurant quickly filled up. This is exactly the kind of restaurant I wanted to find in Palermo. Family run, atmospheric and with a good selection of local dishes made with Sicilian ingredients. We ate mostly antipasti and pasta/gnocchi but the quality was excellent. Fresh ingredients and the pasta was well cooked. The Wine (red and white) was served in beautifully chilled glasses. This family run restaurant oozes atmosphere and tradition and we enjoyed the meal very much. Not a lot of English is spoken by the owners but that is fine and adds to the experience in my opinion. Very good value for the...
