We chose this restaurant for our one night out in Pompeii, eager to experience a Bib Gourmand experience.
We skipped the starters and ordered two pasta dishes, followed by the fish of the day—flatfish with potatoes—as main course, and finished with dessert. The latter two were shared.
We waited about 10-15 minutes for the first course but received them separately with quite a lot of time in between so mine was already getting quite cold when we could finally start to eat.
Later we found out that a waiter had unintentionally swapped my girlfriend's meal with one of a pair from the table next to us.
Fortunately, the pair was kind, so once the meal she ordered was brought, they immediately agreed to have it instead to save the situation. We were not the only ones as similar mistake happened at another table few minutes before.
Both dishes were very good so we naturally looked forward to the flatfish.
A waitress prepared the fish on a table next to us. I was surprised to see that for such an expensive dish, quite a bit of meat was left on the bone in several places but I proceeded not to mention it to avoid any embarrassment.
The fish was, as expected, very tasty, though we had to additionally season it ourselves as the boiled potatoes didn’t add much flavor.
We shared one tiramisu at the end, which was mediocre and asked for a bill. We discovered the staff had charged us 10 euro extra for the dish that got swapped with the people from the neighbouring table. Eventually we had to communicate it out with the only waitress that could speak English who then communicated with her boss in Italian.
Overall, food was worth the price, but for 90 €/person experience, the service in such a high-end restaurant was very...
Read morePlease AVOID!! Waited over 30mins just to receive menu- at least another 30mins to order- waitress trying her best but flustered and rushing everywhere. Diners next to us tried frequently to pay their bill but no luck for a long time!! Waitress recommended sardines as a starter but about 20 mins after we ordered she returned to say they had ran out of sardines!!! We ordered another dish and the long waits continued!! Booked table for 8.30pm - one shared started and a main and it was after 11pm by the time we had received both courses. Pasta was quite good but fillet beef steak was overcooked. The two side dishes ordered - french fries and grilled vegetables were so salty they could not be eaten so sent back with no offer of replacement until as steak was finished the waitress came over to say she had no idea the dishes had been returned!! We asked and got them taken off the final bill - she said there were two chefs working and both must have salted the dishes!! The restaurant was not full - there were empty tables inside and there were plenty of staff. The couple seated at the next table likened it to eating out at Fawlty Towers - if you know that tv series from UK you will know what they meant! Disaster from start to finish and no discounts for all we had to put up with - except a tiny thimble cup of limoncello as a token of their apology!!! Expensive and definitely...
Read moreI had an absolutely delightful experience at Casa Gallo. The kindness and hospitality of the staff really made me feel welcome from the moment I stepped through the door. Despite arriving close to closing time, they graciously allowed us to enjoy our lunch without any rush.
Speaking of the meal, the food was absolutely divine! We were fortunate enough to try a few of the daily specials, including the baccalà and polenta, pasta with crab, and seafood lasagna. Each dish had its own unique flavor profile and was bursting with fresh, bold flavors. The presentation was also beautiful - it was clear that the chefs had put a lot of love and care into our plates.
And let's not forget about dessert! The molten chocolate cake with vanilla gelato was the perfect end to a delicious meal. The rich chocolate filling paired perfectly with the creamy gelato, and it was clear that the dessert had been made with high-quality ingredients.
Overall, I can't recommend Casa Gallo enough. The attentive service and visible kitchen added to the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. If you're looking for a fantastic meal and a warm, welcoming experience, this is definitely the...
