Del Regno Holiday House — Hotel in Pompei

The location is convenient, close to the centre of Pompeii, shops, restaurants and the archaeological park. The apartment was clean.

That’s the good part.

Now, the reality of staying there: the apartment is on the ground floor, stuck between a heavy iron gate and a slow lift, right next to a very loud restaurant. There are technically windows, but they’re permanently sealed behind metal shutters and bars, so you get no daylight, no fresh air, and a lovely prison cell vibe. The iron gate slams every couple of minutes, people shout on the corridor waiting for the lift 24/7, and the restaurant provides a steady soundtrack of music and yelling.

The kitchen… the fridge keeps a steady 20 degrees, which I discovered after losing €50 worth of groceries. It’s tiny, barely big enough for a few beers – not that they’ll ever get cold, as the fridge is directly under the electric hob.

No door to the bedroom, so there’s no escape from the noise. And no proper key to the apartment – just a simple pin code on the outside, easy to guess if you’re feeling lucky.

What could have been better? A proper lock on the door, for starters. And maybe some actual windows and a fridge that works.

It was within walking distance of many popular landmarks and attractions in Pompei. Choosing to stay in Pompei was definitely one of the best decisions I made.
