Il Pescato del Canevone — Restaurant in Rimini

My partner and I visited Rimini for a day trip from Ravenna and had our sights set on going to this restaurant as it was recommended by a kind Italian we met on our flight. We sensed that our waiter had a bit of an attitude pretty much from the get go. When we requested an ice bucket for our white wine, we were abruptly told not to place the wine in it. The evening went downhill from there. When I asked for some lemon for my calamari, I was met with venom and was told that was unacceptable and he added in disgust, “I suppose you order cappuccino after dinner as well”. I ended up not adding the lemon which made him happy. Anyhow I was seething with his overall rudeness and arrogance particularly the cappuccino remark. I finally had to tell him that his arrogance was amazing. He was shocked to hear he had effected us by his remarks and feigned an apology.

Anyhow down to the food. The prawns and calamari were fresh, well prepared, tender and and delicious. The gnocchi was pretty unremarkable. We left sweets as we couldn’t wait to get out of there as our overall dining experience was spoilt by the waiter’s rudeness...

Oh my gosh!! What a disaster. We walked by on a warm September evening and saw that it was busy outside so thought we'd try it out. The terrace area was full so went inside and were seated quickly...all good so far. After waiting for 15 minutes we were approached and asked if we would like drinks before ordering. We explained that we hadn't seen a menu yet but ordered a bottle of water anyway. Another 15 minutes passed and the table next to us were getting very vocal at the slow service, raising their voices quite loudly. We still hadn't seen a menu yet and had not received our water. Other people inside the restaurant were getting up and leaving and so, after no actual service in over 30 mins, we joined them. Regrettably, this could have just been a bad night for the staff, there only seemed to be 2 waitresses on duty but, as we never went back or ever will, we'll never...

Every once in a while I run across a restaurant that is so unexpectedly excellent that it remains in my memory forever. My date here would've been great without any of the special service, but all the extra work our server did to make us feel welcome gets this a full 5 star. The menu has fewer than 20 items, the plates are small, so you will spend a lot, but know everything is superb. The fish is prepared with such care. Their wine selection is impressive and they even accommodated my stupid non-alcoholic requirement that night. If one day Michelin adds this to their list I will not be surprised. I hope this remains in business for many years and I'll keep coming back.
