Fungo Rooftop — Restaurant in Rome

We were staying nearby in a suburb hotel and found the 'mushroom' about a 15 minute walk away. We went in during the day to look at menus and although no one spoke English, we gathered there was a formal restaurant at the top and below on the ground floor and terrace was more casual. They didn't have a menu to show us for the evening so we just guessed it would be expensive but were very wrong. We arrived later that night and got a nice table outside. Ive ordered the some food, it was excellent and had plenty of both calabrese and nduja so was deliciously spicy and generous and was about €8. There was a choice of half bottles of wine for €13 and the red was a delicious shiraz. The Americano and tiramisu were also very good so all in all was an excellent choice. I want to visit this restaurant again and will eat upstairs as I can only imagine how good it will be! Go and enjoy is my advice!

The atmosphere is contemporary and has a spectacular view of the EUR and beyond. We were brought a sampling of the chef's appetizers..all unique and tasty and several different kinds of breads to choose from. The starter of scallops in pumpkin sauce with truffles was amazing. The sole in citrus sauce was probably one of the best fish dishes we'd had in a long time. The pasta was ok, but heavier than the other dishes. E' stata una piacevole sorpresa il ristorante situato al 14°piano! Secondo me si colloca così : Non è il tipico locale gourmet e quindi non è adatto per chi ha pretese altissime, ma non è un luogo paragonabile a un pub o una trattoria, quindi non è adatto per chi vuole abbuffarsi in una certa maniera e pagare 20 euro.(esempio). Onestamente mi aspettavo piatti più piccoli, dopo aver letto le recensioni e da come si presenta il posto in generale (evidentemente alcuni che hanno recensito non sono stati davvero in questi locali di "puro" gourmet ?). I prezzi per la qualità/quantità che servono non sono eccessivi rispetto a un ristorante gourmet tipico ha queste caratteristiche che lo contraddistinguono. In altri locali sono più alti i prezzi ed anche più piccole le porzioni (ognuno ha il suo perchè condivisibile o meno), comunque si sente che non sono cibi comprati al supermercato e questo è molto importante per un locale del genere! Abbiamo preso un primo, il risotto di scampi, nduja ecc porzione (minimo) per due persone perchè lo servono così (condivido la scelta) e i sapori si sposano benissimo tra di loro, ogni singolo ingrediente si sente. Mentre per il secondo ho preso salmone con pistacchio e carciofo però il mio palato ha sentito solo il salmone (molto buono) e il carciofo (anche questo positivo), il pistacchio che adoperano invece è troppo leggero come sapore, non si distingue per niente e viene così sovrastato con gli altri ingredienti (almeno per quanto riguarda questa specifica combinazione e dal mio palato). La persona che stava con me come secondo ha preso il calamaro arrostito ed era molto buono, anche lì, secondo noi i sapori si sposano bene con il cedro e altri ingredienti. Come dolce abbiamo preso il gelato mantecato. Pistacchio e cioccolato, gusti leggeri ma piacevoli. In ogni modo ho apprezzato molto di più il pistacchio gelato, che con il carciofo e il salmone. Se pur leggero si apprezza però il gusto. Abbiamo avuto la fortuna di vedere il tramonto appena siamo arrivati. Ambiente molto tranquillo. Abbiamo apprezzato anche la musica di sottofondo a basso volume ideale per questi tipi di ristoranti. Snchr le luci soft , ma non troppo. Camerieri preparati e gentili. Sicuramente ci torneremo perchè nel complessivo siamo stati molto bene. Specifico, ognuno ha i propri gusti,le proprie pretese e le proprie aspettative. Noi non abbiamo avuto altissime pretese fin dall'inzio,certo un minimo di qualità lo si pretende sempre così come un ambiente che fa sentire il cliente a proprio agio e queste cose le abbiamo notate. Siamo stati consapevoli ancor prima di prenotare che non è un luogo da portare amici/famiglie o coppie che hanno come obiettivo far baldoria e abbuffarsi pagando poco, così come non è adatto per chi pretende che sia il miglior gourmet di Roma. Based on the other reviews we went there with lots of expectations...and we were not disappointed!!! It is a great restaurant, modern design and the 360° view will impress you enormously!!! The food... well... EXCELLENT!!! CACIO AND PEPE is served with the Amazing presentation of the cacio full shape in which they mix the pasta and scoop around the melted cheese!! The flavour is incredible and it will create dependency!! Sizes are perfectly balanced and well presented and the staff is so fun and humble!!! They will joke with you and make sure you feel at 'home'!! Bread and grissini is homemade!!! So try it!! It is outside the touristic part of Rome so you won't see crouds or be bothered!...
