Nice gluten free (and gluten full!) food. I got the Spaghetti with swordfish and pine nuts, which was cooked perfectly, Al dente. The waiter also explained where the ingredients came from which was very good to know. I love that they put a lot of effort into their food and care about where it's sourced from.
However the big thing that put me off was the comment that the waiter made. We declined drinks, saying that we already have water so don't need drinks. And for some reason Italian restaurants just don't do tap water, essentially forcing you to buy drinks. Anyway, i did not buy them. The waiter said that it's "forbidden" to bring your own water and told us that it's insolence. I'm really not understanding why. That made the rest of the meal very awkward. He could have told us that while we were ordering, but he interrupted our meal just to tell us that afterwards. Being Italian doesn't give you the right to be rude. If you came to my country I would respect your ignorance of the local etiquette rather than being rude to you like that. Actually this experience just reinforced some toxic stereotypes.
They were very quick to get us to leave as well. The older male waiter (same one who told me I was being insolent) did not even ask us if we wanted dessert. Just said they need to clear the table and got me the bill. As soon as we paid the bill (after being rushed), the lady who was probably the manager, took the chair the second my wife got up. It was just very awkward because we felt really unwelcome there. It felt like "insolence" to put it in their own words. I feel like because we are young and tourists, we were not given good service. Seemed like the other guests were more important. The French couple next to us who didn't look like tourist were sitting there for much longer than us. Why didn't you tell them to leave?
On the flip side, the male Filipino waiter was very friendly and quite funny.
Food was good but attitude was very pretentious and arrogant. Because of the service I will not be eating there again if I come to Rome again. There are lots of other restaurants who have just as nice food and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAwesome little restaurant. The owners were very welcoming. Found us a nice table outside. The service was great. The food was magnificent. The drinks were nice and refreshing. Overall great experience.
Before our dishes came out they gave us a small fried bread, which was nice. We also had the Aperol Spritz, and Spritz Hugo (with Elderflower). Both very refreshing.
We had for first course the "Fried zucchini flowers with fresh ricotta, roman cheese (pecorino D.O.P.) and anchovies", "Roman tripe (typical Roman recipe) in tomato sauce with croutons with mint oil". Both were excellent, great flavor, the batter on the flowers was nice and light, the tripe was so rich and tender.
The second course we had the "Carbonara with Black peppers Tellicherry and pork cheek from Norcia and white truffle cream", "Carbonara with Bottarga (smoked tuna eggs) from Marzamem", "FETTUCCINE ARTIGIANALI - HOMEMADE PASTA Alfredo with flakes of balsamic vinegar", "Fettuccine with Sophia Loren pesto". Both versions of Carbonara were excellent, great el dente pasta and rich sauce, the Bottarga version was a nice alternate from the gunciale version, albeit a bit richer taste. Both Fettucinne stood out, the handmade pasta was so light and delicate, absolutely superb. The balsamic flakes lightened up the Alfredo and complimented the flavors nicely.
For deserve we had the tiramisu with pistachio made with amaretto. And as a post dinner drink the owners brought out complementary limoncello shots, and a a dark chocolate no bake brownie she said yound kids would historically make at home, and sometimrs referred to in Italian as chocolate sausage (because it's loosely mixed and the white flecks can be seen like you'd see fat in a slice of sausage).
Overall a great experience, will be a meal we remember for years to come. Grazie e...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf I could give zero stars for service, I would. My mother and I were really disappointed with our meal here. We made reservations for 7:45, arrived on time, were seated outside and were promptly served our requested water and a complimentary appetizer. Thatās pretty much where the service ended. I had to stare down a waiter in order to take our appetizer and dinner orders. The two entrees I attempted to order (carbonara with saffron and then carbonara with artichokes) were apparently not available for some reason so I went with the carbonara Classico. It was average. Nothing spectacular although the pork cheek was crispy and flavorful. My mother had the fettuccine with prawns which she said was also only average. The appetizers were not highly rated by either of us. The zucchini flowers were too heavily fried and the eggplant medallion was unpleasantly smoky to my taste. When we finished our meals we sat. And sat. And sat. The tables around us were brought dessert menus and checks. We, were left wondering where any wait staff even was. When I finally saw one and flagged them down and asked for a dessert menu, we then sat some more with no one coming to take our order. So we ditched having any sort of dessert. Other tables were brought some sort of complimentary post dessert dish which we were never offered. Ultimately, my mother had to go inside to ask for the check which was then brought out to us where I had to ask the staff member to stand there while we gave him the credit card so we didnāt have to wait another indefinite amount of time for someone to pick up the check. Ultimately we left feeling dismayed and agitated. The ambiance and environment are not much to note either....
