Normally vegetarian restaurants are excellent at catering for vegans and can adapt most of their dishes (in ways more imaginative than just removing things from a dish). Sadly, during our visit to Orto, we just felt we were an inconvenience. We ordered what was supposed to be a vegan starter (vegetable tempura), but when it was brought to our table we were told that the dipping sauce was not vegan and that there were no vegan alternatives available at all....which was a bit odd, since we would have been fine with anything wet...even just a simple chili/hot sauce. Read moreWent to this restaurant twice during our visit in Rome. Lunch buffet is delicious with lots of choices really great value for the price, we were so happy for getting the variety of veggies because in normal Italian restaurants veggies are always side orders and not many choices, they don't even charge you for the water. If you go for lunch time try to arrive before 1pm as the restaurant gets full of people quickly. They keep adding food so it doesn't run out. Went back for dinner 2 days later, a la carte menu is also very nice and reasonable price. Both times service was good and staff was...
