Osteria Della Carne — Restaurant in Rome

In this life there are people you meet that just seem to glow. They have an almost magentic aura and tonight, it seems that we met all of them at once. From the moment we walked through the door, to the second we left, each and every person that worked here made us feel as if we'd known them for years. It didn't seem like work to them, because truthfully I don't think was. What we witnessed was a team so cohesive, passionate and present in their moment, they were artists creating a living masterpiece. Art is an experience is it not? An expressive medium that speaks to your soul, taking on a form that elicits feelings and thoughts. Tonight was no different and will certainly make this birthday one to cherish. Our host for the evening was warm and open, giving us an amuse bouche of genuinely engaging conversation, as well as excellent menu suggestions and detailed explanations. On top of this, they went to lengths to ensure that I was well informed about what had gluten in it and how it would be prepared. Such diligence meant that I did not (for lack of a better phrase) keel over and die. Gluten free people rejoice!

The food itself was truly sublime; the parma ham was perfecto to start! My partner enjoyed the fettuccine alfredo (not gluten free - she shouldn't have to suffer like me), which she truly adored, but simply couldn't finish as she had 300g of steak and half of a portion of escarole yet to eat. The steak comes with some of the best damn baked potatoes I've ever had (though my Belarusian friend Ilya wins that crown, he really knows his was around a potato) and is meant for 2 people (600g in total or tutto). Honestly, it delivers! It's a very good (molto bene) portion and was cooked to perfection. To finish, we had a tiramisu that they made especially for me senza glutine (gluten free). Thick chocolate dusted cream, drowned in delicious coffee. My partner likened it to an affogato, which she really loves.

I can't stress how fantastic this place was, even the locals were kind to us. One of the waiters was taking great joy in playfully winding up one of the children, pretending to call the police if he didn't eat his food. The guy even got a phone at one point, (an old black rotary one) it was hilarious. You just don't see that genuine level of kindness and vulnerability in the UK restaurant industry.

My only regret is that I couldn't leave a tip. It was our last day here and we were completely out of euros. I even looked on Google maps about an ATM, but alas everywhere I looked seemed to be closed. Regardless, we will be back and until we are, I shall have to pay my way in words (for now)! Rome wasn't built in a day and we had no chance exploring it...

We spent 1 week in Italy and stayed in the San Paolo area. We travelled all over Rome and the surrounding areas and were not shy to eat at all the restaurants. This was by far the best restaurant we ate at!In fact it was so good we decided to go back for our last dinner in Italy before heading home. The head chef spoke good English and was very helpful. He came to our table and explained the dishes, where they source ingredients and wine from and gave us recommendations as well. When I tell you the food here is incredible, I mean it. The service is some of the best we received all week but to top it off, we really appreciated the chef coming to our table and discussing the food. We had a truly wonderful dinner at Osteria Della Carne in Marconi. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with warmth and professionalism, making us feel immediately welcome. The ambiance is both relaxing and elegant, striking the perfect balance for a cozy evening out.

But the real highlight was the food—every dish was absolutely delicious, crafted with care and full of rich, authentic flavor. You can really taste the quality and passion behind each plate. It’s clear that this is a place where both hospitality and culinary excellence are taken seriously.
