I do not often feel compelled to write a negative review, but my advice is: No Go.
My wife’s spaghetti vognole (with clams had a sauce that tastes solely of olive oil and water. No garlic, no shallot, no lemon, no wine, no parsley, and no cream or butter. Maybe a little olive oil) was meh at best.
I wanted the fish of the day - sea bass - but was informed it comes grilled and plain and I can put olive oil on it. Golly.
So I ordered the pollo al limone. Except it had no hint of lemon and when I asked our server, she opined it may have been a red wine (hence the brown color) sauce that I think I could recreate by five parts water and one part mediocre red wine, reduced by half, then add some unrecognizable and unknown brown thickener. Certainly not like the red wine reduction I’ve had at Gladstone’s in Malibu or Long Beach, or that I make at home. The bread crumbs were poured next to the (seemingly) microwaved chicken breast with the wine, er brown, sauce on top. The taste and presentation were akin to a Springfield, Illinois housewife circa 1972 getting creative in the kitchen. Zero points for flavor and technique, one point for presentation if you like sand art-like presentation next to your microwaved chicken breast with the wine and water reduction thickened with brown stuff.
So, I opted for the minestrone. If it was not Progreso from a can, then they fooled me.
The desserts inspired no none - like all the tattoos one sees and thinks: Why?
The bread was standard, sturdy Roman paesano bread. Good, but nothing special.
Steer clear of this place, folks. It only bolsters my strongly held (and never proven wrong) belief that the best Italian food is in New York and New Jersey and thank goodness that has influenced the rest of Italian food in America.
Mario Batali, it is time to return to your roots. The food here needs a re-imagination. And I just spent 72 Euros to find out / reconfirm my thinking. Way overpriced for...
Read moreDelicious menu for dinner! Three nights we have enjoyed the various pasta and risotto dishes, the tiramisu and also mozzarella salad! Dining poolside under the stars was fantastic! Wait staff is fantastic! Especially Emma (Ima) - not sure how to spell her name. Fantastic personality- as well as the Maitre D! Breakfast buffet every morning had a full array of assorted offerings and we loved sitting leisurely by the pool enjoying the morning air!! Espresso, cappuccino, mochacinno, almond milk, fresh pressed juices (pineapple was a hit!), pastries and cakes galore, breads, meats and cheeses (fresh ricotta my favorite), yogurt bar with parfaits and granola and toppings, fresh fruits (super delish!), as well as a hot bar with varieties of eggs, potatoes,...
Read moreHere’s what you need to know: review for breakfast and the experience entirely depends on what time you go. if you are an early bird and go during the first hour, you will have a lovely experience. after 8, depending on how crowded it is, it's like a factory floor with too many guests and no way the kitchen or staff can keep up with your custom orders. food options are plentiful and enjoyable, but after 3 days it becomes repetitive and difficult to order the same thing over and over. some staff is very friendly and some staff is jaded and won't crack a smile or acknowledge you :) ambiance by the pool is amazing as long as it's not too hot.
on the good days, it is a 5 star experience, on the crazy hot and busy days, it's a 3 star experience...
