Osteria Donna Luisa — Restaurant in Scicli

Beautiful little gem of a restaurant in the historic district. Quality food at good prices. Both gourmet type food and pizza. Right next to NIVERA il gelato di natura, an ice cream place. Elegantly decorated, it has about 10 tables inside and 8 tables outside (4 in front and 4 in back of restaurant) when I visited in early October. Very interesting acoustics inside having a “whisper wall” effect like in Bologna, Italia. Someone talking on the other side or noises like rain sounds like in a certain corner of the wall where we were sitting! Artiginal beers and beverages, delicious. This place is amazeballs! Ok, seriously, it's right next to "Montalbano Central" in Scicli, which is a good enough reason to be there. But wait till you get a taste of Marco's (the chef) cooking - it's enough to make you come back repeatedly for that alone! Everything he makes is a slight variation on Sicilian classics, but variations that serve to just make those classics oh so much better (yes! it's possible!). We'd have eaten there everyday if we weren't leaving the next day 😔... BTW Marco (the host, also called Marco!) is a wonderful guy - kind, personable, helpful, just about perfect...

The bottom line - this is destination food. If you're in Scicli - go. If you're not in Scicli, it's worth it to go there just...

First of all you have to visit Scicli in Sicily. The town is wonderful with amazing views and the coolest streets for shopping and dining. We came upon Donna Luisa's Osteria owned and operated by Donna Luisa and her son (figlio). We had a salume and formaggio board that was outstanding. At one point Donna Luisa came out, introduced herself and we had a wonderful conversation. She learned we just retired to Sicily from St. Louis, Missouri and together we worked through our basic Italian while she worked through some English.
