Total disappointment – tourist trap by the harbor
We took a spontaneous trip from Capo Vaticano to Scilla and quickly realized that almost every restaurant requires a reservation. All were full—except “La Fiocina”, located right at the beginning of the harbor street. Only half full, which in hindsight, was probably a red flag.
Still, we were hungry and thought: a seafood restaurant by the sea – what could go wrong? Unfortunately, a lot.
First impression: disappointing. The toilets were in an unacceptable condition – dirty, smelly, and absolutely unhygienic.
Service: inconsistent. We were seated at a lovely table with a nice sea view – the best part of the experience. The main waiter was polite enough, but another staff member clearly didn’t want to be there. It took over 30 minutes before our drinks arrived – only after we reminded them. Food arrived piece by piece with long delays in between.
The food: underwhelming to downright bad. • My seafood pasta had exactly one mussel and a tiny piece of squid – completely bland. • The mixed salad was nothing but shredded iceberg lettuce, dry and plain – no tomato, cucumber, or anything else. • The “frittura” (fried seafood mix and calamari) was clearly frozen, not fresh – small, dry, over-fried pieces with nothing but the taste of old oil.
For a seafood restaurant located right by the sea in a fishing village, this is simply unacceptable. The food quality was poor, the service disorganized, and the overall experience disappointing.
Conclusion: Anyone who has ever had decent seafood in Italy will immediately notice how bad this place is. No freshness, no quality, no recommendation.
I agree with the other negative reviews: this place is a hard pass. You’re better off getting seafood from a local street food stand – you’ll likely get better...
Read moreWaited over 40 mins to be seated despite booking. Was really excited to have the burrata with gamberi rossi... but they served me normal prawns instead. Since it was already so late I didn’t bother complaining but here is a photo.
The rest of the food was just average and expensive...
Location was great though!
To restaurant: inform your staff what you have available and if something has finished don’t substitute unless you check with the customer first! Especially if you are downgrading...
