Albergo Ristorante Il Panciolle in Spoleto (down the street from the Palazzo Dragoni Historical Residence and near the Cathedral) does not get perfect marks, but its strong points easily outweigh its minor demerits.||Strong points: Very charming, quiet area, nice views of the valley, plenty of character, cheerful rooms, good air conditioning, homey feel, wide staircase and landing, close to Cathedral and restaurants. Has its own restaurant.||Weak points: A tad bit too "informal" (staff could not get the credit card machine to operate, room keys left unattended within reach of guests and non-guests); small bathroom without shower stall (curtain allows water to soak around toilet and washbasin); extremely modest breakfast (typical of 2-star properties), no elevator (but wide staircase).||Distance to train station: 1.6 kilometers (20 minutes on foot). To avoid the uphill climb, there are city buses to the top of the old town, and there are a series of 8 escalators hugging the town walls (along the dry river bed, 1.2 kms. from the Station) which take you to the walkway (via Gattapone) above the Cathedral, where it's a short 400-meter walk to the hotel. The incline is avoided by using these escalators at the foot of the old town. To access the escalators, walk across the bridge at Via delle Lettere after taking Via Cacciatore delle Alpi for 400 meters at the main road junction (Viale Trento e Trieste) leading from...

Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for 3 nights, it is in a great position on the top of the hill near the Duomo a short walk to restaurants, shops and landmarks. There is a carpark nearby .||The staff were friendly but spoke little English so it was hard to get parking directions, recommendations for restaurants and what to do and see in Spoleto and surrounding area. Also reception was not regularly attended.||Another problem was the wifi only worked outside our room and was hit and miss.||We stayed in the Rose room, a standard double at the back of the B&B which had lovely views of Spoleto and the valley from our window. The room was clean and spacious with lovely decor, the bed was very hard as were the pillows, there was no safe. ||The walls were very thin and we could hear the people next door on their phone, other wise hotel in a very quiet position.||The bathroom was clean and very small, the shower so tiny you could hardly move. The towels were like tea towels very thin but not uncommon in Italy. There were minimal toiletries.||Breakfast was very basic and it is served on the lovely terrace we only tried it one day and then went elsewhere. It consisted of cereal, a croissant, yoghurt, tea and coffee.||The restaurant at the B&B was fantastic the best meal we had in Spoleto.||II Panciolle is a basic B&B in a fatastic location and was a good base for our 3...
