Osteria del Matto — Restaurant in Spoleto

We stopped here not knowing what to expect. They explained to us that they only have a fixed menu and it's a chef surprise, well, we decided to be adventurous and here we are... We started with 3 different appetizer plates to share , they came in succession and they were so good we ate them before I even remembered to take a pic, all three of them were really delicious but the sausage grilled with grapes and tomatoes was to die for We than had two meat dishes , one with chicken and one with ribs , both very tasty. The ribs were cooked to perfection. If that wasn't enough we got a pasta dish with a regional typical ragù. Once again very good indeed. After all of that food we got the desserts too, they were a Spoleto typical called crescionda, once again very good! The service was good and very friendly. So we highly recommend it especially if you are willing to be surprised by the chef! Sorry for the missing appetizers photo, they were sooo good we ate them before even thinking...

Osteria del Matto is a Spoleto institution...the hospitality of Filipo and his mother is legendary. Be prepared for a very special experience - the restaurant is tiny with just a few tables, so expect to share a table if you are not in a group - normal etiquette in Italy... A menu does not exist, they simply prepare dishes from produce which is best on the day. Many courses will be presented and the food matched with good local wines. Make sure you don't leave before the pasta course! Even though you may think you cannot eat another thing... Dining at Il Matto is like a private party with Filipo in his element as the gregarious host. If you dine in the evening, you will be expected to stay until the end, when he breaks out the digestivi and starts spinning his favorite discs - then the dancing begins !

L'osteria è caratteristica, piccola ma nel complesso molto carina, un po' meno carino il proprietario. Sono stata con degli amici il 1 gennaio, siamo purtroppo arrivati in ritardo di una quarantina di minuti a causa di diversi incidenti che non si possono prevedere. Dovevamo essere una tavolata di 12 persone più 3 bambini ed è stato già scorretto a non dirci che non ha la possibilità di mettere tutti allo stesso tavolo. Ci davamo le spalle ed è stato brutto che non ci abbia dato modo di stare insieme, doveva dirlo al telefono. Quindi se dovete andare in 8 avete un unico tavolo se siete di più no, ve lo dico io. Buon servizio, due ragazzi giovani: veloci ed efficaci. Buona cucina ma non vale i 25 euro soprattutto perché le bibite sono escluse. Il primo gennaio 2024 il menù prevedeva come antipasto 2/3 tipi di frittate, una sorta di tortino salato con zucchine, un polpettone, farro con prosciutto (il tutto una fettina a persona). Nell'antipasto si hanno portato anche il nostro secondo ossia delle costolette e delle salsicce molto piccole (un paio a testa e soprattutto senza contorno). E poi al tavolo come primo è arrivata la pasta al sugo (senza infamia e senza lode) una fiamminghetta per 6 e per 4 non variava la quantità. Come dolce un quadratino di zuppa inglese. In conclusione per aver pagato 270 euro sono rimasta molto delusa. Spero possano prendere questa recensione come appunto per riflettere su quello che offrono, sui comportamenti e magari possano migliorarsi perché il locale al centro storico di Spoleto potrebbe essere una miniera d'oro.

P.S. un appunto per il proprietario perché sono stata una signora non rispondere davanti ai clienti che aveva all'interno alle sue provocazioni: lei ha voluto comunque fare un teatrino sia quando abbiamo chiesto di unire due tavoli e ha iniziato ad alta voce (guardando gli altri clienti) a dore che non era il caso perché già era pieno, era tardi e non aveva il tempo di spostare un unico tavolo per farci stare uniti e diventare un tavolo ad L perché comunque eravamo tutti nella stessa stanza: beh ti ricordi che il cliente ha sempre ragione, il cliente va rispettato specialmente se quando entra chiede scusa per il ritardo e lei deve essere professionale da capire che gli imprevisti possono accadere e deve saper gestire anche quelli.

N.B. aggiungo anche questo secondo appunto perché quando siamo entrati lei mi ha detto " è mezz'ora che vi vedo passeggiare qua fuori" se abbiamo avuto una piccola difficoltà nel trovarla è perché il suo locale non è in piazza ma in una vietta della piazzetta e se lei ci aveva riconosciuto poteva uscire e venire a chiamarci, perché già iniziare con questa frase non le fa onore ma...
