We chose Sabatini because of it's proximity to our hotel, the reviews and a perusal of their interesting menu that did not include stratospheric prices and we were not disappointed. This was absolutely one of the best meals we have had so far this year (in our first night in Italy) with excellent service, as well. We hope other meals will be as good.
It was a goodnight to dine outdoors ( the second night that they had the garden open for dining). It should be quite nice with warmer summer weather on the way. Such a pleasant atmosphere.
Some of the highlights...
We started with the celery tart, which was more like 3 individual mousses with perfect accompaniments. Creamy, light and very well flavored, the meal would have passed all expectations based on this course alone.
I had the mezzaluna boar ragu ravioli with the porcini cream. The ravioli were delicious in their own rite, but the porcini cream elevated it to the next level. Absolutely one of the best meals I've had. None of the cream was left on the plate.
My wife had the special lamb arancini. The arancini were crisp and better than most we have had (even in Sicily) and the lamb was subtle but very flavorful. The grilled vegetables (zucchini, eggplant, red pepper and potato) were a real nice contorni and the red pepper alone was better than I have had anywhere else.
Complimentary focaccia and sun-dried tomatoes with saffron were a nice, unexpected treat .
The local Trebbiano Spolentino was crisp and most palatable, at a reasonable cost
The Panna Cotta with limoncello special was creamy and a fitting way to end our meal.
Ricardo was professional, helpful, hospitable and so well matched to the excellent job he did taking care of us, as were the other support staff.
We felt valued at welcomed at Sabatini and enjoyed an exceptional meal and service that we will be talking about for years to come .
Bravo! and many,...
Read moreWe had the most incredible experience in this restaurant, and it was hands down one of the best dinners we have had during our week in Italy so far! I had let them know about my celiac disease/gluten allergy and cow milk allergy the day before, and I was met by a fully prepared staff that made me feel safe and welcome. The waiters were so friendly, funny and generous, and they made us feel so spoiled and well taken care of without ever hovering. The food was amazing, with great quality produce and execution. We had the daily special of Guinea fowl with truffle, the wild boar stew and pork with Sagrantino pears. All were fantastic, but the favourite was the stew! We even got a surprise dessert for free, catering to all our allergies, which left us with a big smile on our faces. If we had not just been passing through Spoleto we would definitely have come back again to try the rest of the menu! If you only have one day in...
Read moreWe had a dinner here included in a hotel package. Over the past week we've had some very good food. This was such a let down. The wait staff was very friendly, but the cuisine was sub par. It definitely felt like we were taken advantage of.
The menu that was custom for the package dinner was trimmed way down and included no meat. (Unless this was a vegetarian menu, that was unclear. When we asked the waiter told us a few of the other options.)
The Riccotta Flan was very bland and the texture was off. The colorful dipping sauces lakes enough flavor to compensate.
The Typical Pasta was over cooked and the sauce kinda tasted like spicy canned speggettios.
The Boar Stew was very salty and lacking in textures.
The other dishes we had also had substantial faults. Like the accompanying colorful crackers being...
