Cantina Del Drago — Restaurant in Sutri

This is a gem of a restaurant, situated in a “cantina” (cellar) of a 16th century palazzo, and facing a delightful garden courtyard. The cuisine is generally modern Italian with several Asian and American flourishes, including a seaweed (Wakame) hummus bruschetta, and ribs with BBQ sauce. The chef is definitely well-traveled! We chose the duck breast with Tonkatsu sauce, the braised beef cheek with red cabbage, and then lamb chops. These were all expertly cooked, seasoned and beautifully presented (see pics). Having eaten at plenty average places throughout Lazio, including Sutri, this food stood out! The only reason to remove a star was the level of service. The three waitstaff were overwhelmed by the Sunday lunch volume, and we had to wait inordinately long for everything, including 30 minutes between asking for the check and receiving it. Moreover, our waiter struggled to provide sufficient details about the food and ingredients when asked. I think this restaurant has the capability to up its game and be a spectacular eatery. Vi chidederete perché 3 stelle , ve lo svelerò qui sotto Parto con il dire che mi è piaciuto molto lo stile del ristorante interno , che il servizio è stato rapito e davvero cortese e professionale. Nota negativa ,le 3 stelle sono perché " ero con un passeggino DUO avendo una neonata e un' altra bambina di 2 anni , ed è stat molto scomodo scendere le scale interne dell'ingresso ( scale rustiche e non definite quindi un po' pericoloso per una come me a cui piace la sicurezza, SOPRATTUTTO quando ci sono i bambini " che esteticamente a me piacciono ma non è questo il punto "), se non fossimo stati accompagnati da altri 2 amici avremmo dovuto chiedere aiuto ai camerieri in quanto non saremo riusciti a scendere. Non ho notato se ci fosse una pedana per disabili FONDAMENTALE in quanto i disabili devono potersi muovere ed entrare ovunque in sicurezza. LA CUCINA? Arrivo a parlare anche del CIBO , da golosa e amante della varietà , ho trovato un po' scarsa la scelta nel menù ( sapori forti ) poca scelta anche per i dolci . Ho scelto la vellutata di verdure per me , l' ho trovata squisita: mentre per mia figlia i ravioli di manzo che avevano un sapore eccessivamente forte a mio gusto , ma ci era stato anche comunicato prima di fare l' ordine ,fortuna che mia figlia ama i sapori forti. Mio marito ha preso un piatto a base di fegato che gli è piaciuto moltissimo. Un ' amica un piatto a base di legumi e pesce ,anche lei lo ha trovato buono. Un amico invece un mini polletto "credo" gli è piaciuto molto.

CONCLUSIONE :

😕Location interna freddina e buia per fare un pranzo , soprattutto quando c' è un bel sole fuori e vorresti godere della sua luce e calore. ( Ci sono dei posti fuori "terrazzo interno " credo si chiami così , chiuso da teli traparenti , in inverno non so che temperatura possa fare lì non avendoci mai mangiato ) . ✅ Esteticamente mi piace lo stile rustico ed intimo.

🚷🪜👶♿ 🚫 Non ho visto un ' ascensore , la scala NON è adatta per essere attraversata da passeggini o sedie a rotelle. Chiamare e chiedere se c' è un ' ascensore, oppure un modo sicuro per scendere nel ristorante in quanto si trova come in un piano -1.

🧐non c' è un piccolo menù bimba/o ,ma questo è un problema molto diffuso in molti ristoranti ,quindi non la metterei proprio come una nota negativa in quanto non è una regola. Ma da mamma non posso non farlo presente.

Vale la pena andarci ? Si perché no

Chissà in futuro le 3⭐ potrebbero diventare 5⭐ se cambiassero le cose sopra citate.

Se volete fare una passeggiata dopo pranzo o cena , purtroppo non c' è molto da visitare ( noi abbiamo percorso le vie fino al museo, poi siamo andati al lago di trevignano che...

Cantina Del Drago is a true five out of five. A masterpiece of food, wine and hospitality in the tiny village of Sutri.

We walked in not expecting to be blown away, but blown away we were. The carpaccio, the octopus, the carbonara, all magnificent 🤌🤌🤌.

Ask the staff to choose your wine, and if you have a chance on a Saturday, go for wine, sit on the lawn.

You won’t be dissatisfied.
