Osteria Valle — Restaurant in Todi

What a complete disappointment! We had been there a few months after it had changed hands and were really disappointed with the food then but being good neighbors we decided to try it one more time. It was honestly the worst food experience we have had in Italy. We ordered Chicken Cacciotora, it was only a back and a wing. It also had not been stripped of all its feathers. We could not find any meat, and if there was, it would have to have been found by tearing it apart between all of the bones. Then we ordered a salad; it only had wilted leaves of lettuce. We returned the Cacciatora and the salad but were still charged for them. When we asked the server to adjust our bill, she said that just because we did not like or want it didn't mean we were not expected to pay for it. OMG. We were shocked as we had not eaten any of it. The waitress kept trying to get us to pay for it, making excuses. After she realized we would not pay what she had charged, she came back with an adjusted bill, which she said we didn't need to pay. And we did not. I also feel that the waitress thought because we were speaking English that, we would pay, and she would be done with us. However, we are permanent residents in Todi and can only say that it is a huge disappointment that they were not professional in any capacity. A modern take on classic Umbrian cuisine. Simone, the owner explained the dishes and his inspiration - he is a wonderful host and incredible how he puts his personal touch on all the tables and guests.

He is both personable, attentive and knowledgeable. We loved his friendly staff too who were always available.

The food was on another level. When you've had one too many traditional style dishes, this just mixes it up very well. The smoked goose was such a great way to start on a bed of bitter and fresh rocket and drizzled with Modena balsamic. Delicious pairing.

The cuttlefish was cut and mixed with vegetables, it's deep flavour shined through and was definitely a unique combination.

Pasta was as Al dente, perfect with the sauce and truffle. Best pasta we've had so far on our trip.

Lastly, the limoncello was a great digestif to end the meal on such a high note.

La tecnica è un'ampia e sapiente dimostrazione di conoscenza di cosa significhi il verbo “cucinare”. Questo standard qualitativo permette al cliente di godere appieno dei sapori con abbinamenti perfettamente bilanciati che rendono unico ogni boccone. Gli elementi secondari non vengono mai posti a coprire l'elemento principale del piatto ma lo accompagnano sempre, in modo da permettere al palato di distinguere i sapori uno dall'altro. La competenza della dolcissima, gentilissima e preparatissima Anna vi sorprenderà, sempre. Gli abbinamenti, sapientemente consigliati si rivelano decisivi nell'esaltare i sapori che, in bocca, appaiono netti, corposi ma allo stesso tempo delicati e persistenti. La cortesia, la dolcezza, la gentilezza sono presenti sempre e vi accompagneranno lungo un meraviglioso viaggio enogastronomico di altissimo livello. Godetevi anche lo spettacolare posto dove si trova questo gioiello.
