I came here with some Italian friends who were visiting Trieste. We expected a lot judging by the reviews, but we were horribly disappointed. The pasta dishes were mediocre at best. Simple pasta dishes using local ingredients were always the "staple" of the Italian kitchen. Now, restaurants like these charge high prices and somehow turn them into "gourmet" dishes. Thirteen Euros for spaghetti with aglio, olio and pepperoncini—a simple peasant dish. It wasn't that great either. Eat with any family in southern Italy, and you will taste better.
The owner replied, and therefore I have decided to add more details. The owner was very rude when one of my friends commented on the food while in the restaurant.
I am more than happy to pay a higher price for quality, but, here I received fairly high prices for mediocre quality.
As for the so-called homemade pasta, I would suggest the owner buy it in the supermarket instead of making it, I have found better "fresh" pasta there. The mozzarella alla marinara had so much tomato sauce you could hardly taste the mozzarella. The photos on the menu show lots of mozzarella, but the reality was more sauce than substance. The "fresh" tomatoes tasted like canned ones, and the shellfish had sand in them, which is such a basic mistake to make. I thought I would help the owner learn to prepare these properly with a quick guide: To ensure your shellfish dishes aren't sandy, follow these steps:
Rinse under running water, discarding damaged shells. Healthy ones shut tight when tapped. Place in saltwater, mimicking their habitat. Refrigerate for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Before cooking, gently lift shellfish from water, avoiding sediment. Remove any...
Read moreOn a very windy, cold and rainy night last month, my wife and I entered into this establishment and immediately the warmth and hospitality that was put forth made us forget about the miserable conditions that existed outside. It is a small restaurant, but it felt like we were in someone's home as the owner and chef heartedly welcomed us in. I was surprised how busy it was and there was only a small table for two available, but we were happy to get it. The menu was small, but everything on it looked great. There were 3 items for each category of fish, meat and pasta. It was recommended that we try the Carbonara as it was one of their specialties and they claimed it to be the best in Trieste. I beg to differ as I think it's the best in all of Italy. My wife had one of the best fish dishes she has ever had that came with a white citrus sauce. We also had a side dish order of artichokes that was large and flavorful. We were the last people to leave that night, but before we left, we talked extensively with the owner. She is very charming and such a wonderful host. From start to finish, this restaurant gave us a memorable experience with both food and hospitality. Don't just take our word for it, go there and do try...
