B&B La Magica Torre — Restaurant in Unione di Comuni Montani Colline del Fiora

After searching the town for 20 minutes in 40 degree heat trying to find the hotel, we were greeted with a warm welcome and well spoken English from the Italian owner. When asked where to leave the car, we were told to follow an employee, to which we assumed would be round the corner. Instead, we were taken out of the town and parked in a damp cave. We then had to walk with all our stuff to the other side of the town around 1km away from the car, nowhere near the reception desk. After walking up 5 flights of stairs with our suitcases, we were finally shown to the room. After the long walk, and being such a hot day, we were looking forward to a nice cool room, so straight away we turned the air con to full. Except after 20 mins we found that there was no difference, so we called the reception to find out it didn't work, with no apologies or attempts to helpthe problem. We instead decided to open the windows and let air in. ||We were told check out was at 9:30am (I've never been to a hotel with a check out so late), but because of this we decided to have a lay in the next morning. However, due to the severe heat of the room overnight, we barely slept, and on top of this, were interrupted at 6:30am by a cleaning lorry directly beneath our window. As we were up early, we thought we would get to the reception slightly earlier than 9:30, thinking we would be able to check out on time, like any other establishment. However, it wasn't until 10 that the owner turned up so we could check out, with no apology for being late. Instead, when we mentioned this, suddenly he didn't speak any English, touching my partners watch making it out that it wasn't a problem. We then tried to explain the problems we had, in which all the English he knew had suddenly been forgotten and started shouting at us in Italian. |We were then given the bill, in which he had added €5 for the parking, which we were not happy to pay given not only the situation, but also the fact it was nowhere near where we were staying, were weren't told of this price, and we could have parked closer for free. |Such a shame as a beautiful little town, but it really ruined the visit for the both of us.||Avoid...

Personalmente, ho consumato i seguenti piatti e, sinceramente, qualche perplessità l’ho avuta:  Gnocchi ai 4 formaggi;  Filetto di cinta senese con Lardo di Colonnata e noci;  Patate arrosto. I sapori erano standardizzati e la cucina è stata mediocre e piena di errori tecnici. Gli gnocchi ai quattro formaggi non devono essere affogati nella salsa, altrimenti il piatto non si chiamerebbe più “gnocchi ai 4 formaggi”, ma “quattro formaggi liquidi con gli gnocchi a random” (cioè, li mangiate solo se li trovate con la forchetta). Una misera fetta di Cinta senese (costo 13 euro) andava servita con un contorno e non da sola in un piatto gigante, oltretutto riempiendo la parte vuota con due strisciatine di riduzione d’aceto (o quello che era). Le patate arrosto vanno fatte al forno e cotte fino ad avere una perfetta bruciatura. Non si servono riscaldate dopo ore o giorni in frigorifero, quindi molli e insipide, ma soprattutto non le si fanno pagare 4 euro! Il vino “della casa” (o sfuso) era buono! Io ho bevuto un “mezzo litro” di Morellino di Scansano ed è stata l’unica cosa che mi ha convinto al 100% e che ha salvato la mia cena. Nel caso in cui vogliate, invece, salire di livello, allora potete scegliere di acquistare una bottiglia qualsiasi dalla loro lista dei vini, perché certamente non sbaglierete la scelta. Qui siete nella “serie A” dei vini e sbagliare etichetta è praticamente impossibile! Però, il mio consiglio è di non farlo. In questo caso, non ne vale la pena, poiché il vino migliore deve accompagnare il cibo migliore! Mi spiego meglio, che senso avrebbe comprare e bere un vino da 30 Euro, quando il cibo non è all’altezza e, soprattutto, quando non si ha la minima possibilità di raggiungere il perfetto connubio gustativo tra cibo/bevanda? Oltretutto, è pure antieconomico! Su una cena che vale 25 Euro o poco più, ne pagate altri 30 o 40 per il vino? E sicuramente una cena completa (Antipasto + primo + secondo + dolce) al Ristorante Pizzeria La Torre Magica non vale assolutamente più di 20/25 euro, anche se poi, una volta di fronte al loro registratore di cassa, ne pagherete sicuramente molti di più. Fatevi due conti, un bel ragionamento filosofico e culinario, confrontatevi con i vostri commensali e traetene la giusta conclusione. Certamente, al Ristorante Pizzeria La Torre Magica non si avverte, se non in misura contenuta, la più profonda e autentica sfumatura della tradizione Maremmana, ma questo è dovuto al fatto che il ristorante è improntato per rifocillare una clientela turistica e, di sicuro, non persone gourmet o appassionate di buon cibo e buon bere. Il servizio lascia un pochino a desiderare. Una cameriera, per prima cosa, deve far accomodare i clienti e chieder loro che cosa vogliono bere, ma soprattutto, poi, deve portargli al tavolo il beveraggio che hanno ordinato e, soprattutto, lo deve fare prima che gli vengano serviti i primi piatti. Se ciò non succede, la stessa, ha commesso un errore. Siccome, sbagliare è umano, ma perseverare no, quando poi il cliente te lo fa notare, non è che sbuffi e gli appoggi il vino sul tavolo come se lui ti avesse disturbato mentre stavi guardando la puntata del sabato sera di “C’è posta per te”, con il tuo fidanzato. In questi casi, sarebbe bene che la cameriera pensasse seriamente a dedicarsi ad altro nella vita e iniziasse a valutare la possibilità di intraprendere un’altra carriera professionale. I prezzi al Ristorante Pizzeria La Torre Magica non sono molto alti, ma sono assolutamente incoerenti con la qualità del cibo che propongono e che portano in tavola. Certamente propongono dei prezzi che sono competitivi con il resto dei ristoranti del borgo, ma il livello della loro cucina va bene per un turista beota, magari straniero o per la popolazione locale squattrinata e che non ha la minima concezione di cosa significhi “buon cibo” (cosa che per un Toscano è tutto dire).
