La Capanna del Marinaio — Restaurant in Vico Equense

Cannot say enough about La Capanna Del Marinaio restaurant in Vico Equnese. Every great business starts with its owners. Mario and Nina made us feel at home immediately upon our arrival. We got in late and they had already closed their kitchen, so we ordered drinks and as we sat and enjoyed the peaceful beautiful scenery with Mt Vesuvius in the background, Mario came up to us and said if we were hungry that he would reopen the kitchen for pasta dishes, but that the Pizza oven would take too long to start back up. We said yes, thank you. We had a most wonderful dinner. I had the Paccheri pasta with squid Yelba had the steamed Clams. We finished with a nice “Delizia al Limone” or Lemon Delight (an Amari Coast traditional desert, and a Napoli desert called “Babà al Rum“. Both of which were delicious. Needless to say we would have breakfast and dinner there again. This time I got to try the wood fired Pizza. We had the Margarita and he had a special Octopus (Pulpo) pizza which was fantastic!! We came here in mid May and stayed in an air bnb next door. We quickly found out our first evening there that this area is very slow until the summer months and many restaurants in this cove are closed or hardly operating. We found our way to this quiet cafe after we couldn’t find a taxi to take us up to the top of the town of Vico. After some conversation with the sweet woman behind the counter they were gracious enough to fire up the kitchen just for us. Our prayers were answered and we were treated just like family. Some of the best pasta we’ve had on our whole trip. We quickly got to know the owners Nina and Mario who were the most amazing people we will never forget.
