I actually had an awesome experience here and was hesitant to share because of a fear that it may increase customer footfall so much I might not be able to eat at this place again the next time I visit Beppu!
Had the sashimi and premium sushi sets and was totally blown away by the sushi! First of all the freshness of the produce is undeniable and next is the size...each sushi is definitely at least 25% bigger than is usually served, I kid you not!
My favourite was the unagi and the fatty tuna while my wife loved their uni sushi.
Total bill was less than a fifth of what it would have likely cost back in Singapore for a similar meal.
By far the best sushi I've ever eaten including those I ate at the expensive Ryokan in Beppu and in Fukuoka.
Do make sure to make booking as they only have 7 seats at the counter and 3 small rooms. I managed to get on day itself by cajoling the aunty to slot us in for first slot at 5pm, when they start their...
Read moreI’m sad to rate this place so low, because I hoped that it would be good- but that’s really my experience. The meal was very overpriced. The aji we had was very expensive and poorly cut - it felt like the chef just chopped it up and put it on the plate.
The sushi set was a better value, but even then, the chef was very rushed and the nigiri were poorly executed.
The service was rushed, and honestly, I felt made fun of at times for just asking for something. This is my 12th time to Japan, so it’s not that I’m getting culture shock here.
I think the reason why it’s 1 and not 2 stars, is because the hygiene was concerning. Because the chef is rushed, the counter space is an absolute mess. His kitchen towels were dirty as well.
1 star - avoid, overly touristy spot that has poor price...
Read moreWe stopped here for a sushi lunch while visiting the Hells of Beppu.
The elderly sushi chef runs the shop with the help of his wife, who is super friendly and always has smiles for customers.
We ordered the premium Edo style chirashi don, which my wife enjoyed. She is not a fan of ikura but thoroughly enjoyed the fish eggs.
I had the 8 piece seasonal nigiri with a half roll, and the sushi was tasty, while the fish were sliced thickly. I had thought I would not be full from just eating a few pieces of sushi, but they turned out quite filling.
Highly recommend you visit if you are...
