I haven't even checked-out and I'm compelled to write this review. While this hotel is modern and has many facilities, there are several aspects that can be improved. ➖ One of the staff (Japanese male supervisor) at the check-in desk was inhospitable. He wouldn't even lend us a small towel to take to local onsen or jigoku if you arrive early (before 3pm check-in time). I guess they do not understand the attractions of their own city that they are located in. ➖ The room we were originally given had a body odour and smoke smell in the washroom. They changed us to the room next door. ➖ The air conditioning filters in the room are dusty and need cleaning. It's simple to resolve for the hotel. ➖ There is a serious foul odour in the male change rooms to the onsen and in the pool staircase. This was 2 days in a row. They should close the entire area and throughly clean it before any bacteria makes its way to the bath waters. ➖ The pool and onsen have a great view that is ruined by dirty, unmaintained windows. I don't understand their cleaning schedule. It completely ruins the magnificent view. ➖ If you drive, you'll constantly be paying about 500 yen to park your vehicle. You can't take the vehicle in and out without incurring additional fees. ➖ Yukata are only left out for lending/usage at a certain period. You may miss it entirely depending on timing. ➖ All the laundry machines have broken drying function. This causes extra inconvenience for guests. For pros: ➕ Design and decor are top notch. Especially the lobby area. ➕ Breakfast was pretty good with a variety of food, all labelled with allergens. ➕ The location is great. It is right next to the station with easy access to a variety of shops. ➕ Their TV and remote system is actually advanced. It appears to be completely connected to a smart system, allowing a tablet in your room to control the lights. ➕ There are 3 elevators and they are fast. I didn't need to wait long in most cases.

Booked 2 night at their superior king room. Amazing new hotel to stay in Beppu. Pros : - Great location. 5 mins walk to Beppu St. 2 mins walk to Lawson. 10mins walk to Big and New Don Quijote (recommended) - Modern and New Hotel - Sizable room with king bed size. Great bathroom with separate toilet and sizeable bath tub with good view. - Free juice and coffee during afternoon time. You can add JPY 1000 for free flow alcohol. - Public bath. Separate Gender. Incl open space bath area. Sauna and Cold Pool avail. Room temperature just ok. Pls note that you need to bring your room towel. - Great view roof top pool and small bar. - Amazing breakfast spread and delicious with a complete menu especially local Oita ones incl Ryukyu and Shrimp Tempura. Quite price at JPY 3300 but recommended if you want to have full morning bfast. - Free rental yukata - Quick check in and out with luggage storage. - Great staffs - You can ask additional pillow at the receptionist despite they only provide 2 thin pillows at the room. Cons : - Almost nothing except difficult to have night lamp lighting during bed time.

Overall a great stay at Amanek Beppu. Upon entering the room we were assigned, there was a very distinct smell of cigarette smoke. But the check in staff very kindly switched us to another room. The staff also very kindly explained all of the details concerning the hotel amenities, which was most welcome. The gym was small but had everything you need to do a cardio or weights workout (treadmill, bike, dumbbells up to 10kg and a cable machine). The room itself was large and it had the largest bed we've seen in a Japanese hotel (it's probably larger than a king size). We were on the second highest floor and the views were amazing. The room has automatic lights in some areas (like near the entrance) which was a little annoying during the night as you couldn't turn it off permanently, so it would turn on every time you went to the toilet. For breakfast you either chose Western style or Japanese style and then there were various other elements you could select from a small buffet. The location was fantastic near Beppu station so it was very convenient to get to the main attractions.

We stayed here 2 nights in May and it was such a good location to explore Beppu. Walkable from the station and to lots of great restaurants. Nicely appointed with spacious rooms and a large, king size bed. The hot onsen water rooftop pool was an amazing way to relax after exploring the city. We watched the sunset each evening while relaxing in the pool or hot tub. Tattoos must be fully covered by swimwear. Only down sides are the bed is very firm (like most in Japan) and it’s a bit far from the onsen areas so you must take a bus or drive. We wish we’d rented a car just for the day so we could more quickly get to all the 7 Hell Pools and still have time you visit one or two more onsen. But, the Tamagawara Onsen is only a short walk from the hotel and open late do I went there after dinner our last night. Would definitely stay here again if we ever revisit Beppu.

For our convenience, we chose to stay at the Amanek hotel close to Beppu station. The Japanese western room is spacious. We could see the historical Beppu tower and the famous Ougiyama through our window. Although we didn't use the public bath and the infinity pool, we enjoyed the view on the rooftop. We did wish we could use the impressive heated pool if we remember to bring our swimsuits. The coin laundry was very convenient. The breakfast was decent. Although there are a few details that could be improved, overall we enjoyed our stay. Great appreciated the hotel staff for keeping our forgotten passports and cash envelopes safe. As Americans and being frequent travelers to European countries, we had a side effect of keeping our belongings inside of the room safe. Japan has impressed me again. So as the hotel crews are so considerate and helpful.

Service can be improved. There's 2 person that's helpful ( the guy provided me plenty of helpful tips and and the lady helped me to order pizza delivery at 930pm (superb pizza btw, from pizza-la), but the rest prefer to chit chat among themselves. I asked if hotel able to facilitate luggage transport service to send our luggage to Fukuoka and they said no, which is surprising as all the hotels that we stay provides such service (through third party). Not sure if the lady is not aware or the management is not keen on helping hotel guest. Other than that, good location and plenty of paid parking (at other location). Improvement on service ( help hotel guest to resolve their request instead of asking guest to resolve). Ask guest to stop their vehicle at the back of the hotel to unload their luggage, instead of stopping at the main entrance
