English Review!
If you’re looking for the most-authentic Italian cooking in Fukuoka, Tipico is the place to go.
I stumbled upon this restaurant from a Japanese YouTube channel and, after viewing the delicious pasta dishes featured in the video, decided to give Tipico a try.
With that said, I want to point out that the lunch courses and dinner courses are different experiences. If you go here for dinner, you are expected to order wine with your meal. If you’re like me and can’t drink, there’s a 1,500 yen fee for not drinking alcohol, but this fee was waived for me after ordering 1,500 yen worth of soft drinks.
I went here with a group of friends and we were treated to a wonderful experience. Marta and Chris were excellent hosts and they offered my friends their wine recommendations.
We were given a delicious egg dish made with locally caught tuna, mayonnaise, and olive oil. Right off the bat, we were treated to a symphony of creamy and savory flavors which gave us a delightful preview of what’s to come.
We kicked off our dinner by ordering the Sardinia-style gnocchi, which was so good, we ordered two portions. My friends and I were fighting over every last morsel of the delicious, creamy tomato sauced pasta. We’re off to a great start.
It gets even better! Next we ordered the carpaccio, which was prepared with the juiciest vegetables and locally-caught tuna. Drenched in amazing olive oil, we were mesmerized with every single bite we took. We didn’t want our carpaccio journey to end and we’re left wanting more, so we decided to try the meatballs while we waited for the restaurants specialty dish: the focaccia bread.
We were promptly served our meatballs, served with kewpie mayonnaise and more of that addicting olive oil. The meatballs were so good, I ate them all before my poor friends could take a bite. I will say, while I’m a fan of kewpie mayonnaise, I think the meat balls would’ve been better paired with some Best Foods mayo instead. That’s my only critique for the evening.
Lastly, we were served freshly-made focaccia bread and IT WAS THE BEST FOCACCIA BREAD IVE EVER EATEN ANYWHERE! It was beautifully coated with crushed tomato sauce and covered in leopard spotting, so you know it’s good. It was so good in fact, I ordered more.
Expect dinner to come out to about 3,500 yen per person, and that includes the 1,500 yen “no alcohol tax” if you can’t or don’t drink. Price was reasonable for the quality. I will be returning for their lunch course soon.
Tipico means “typical” in Italian. They should rename the restaurant to “Straordinario” (extraordinary) the food was so good!
Highly recommend and adding it to my list of...

Everything was so good — the pasta, tagliere (charcuterie), carpaccio, calamari, and the bread! It was exactly the flavors and quality I was looking for in Fukuoka. The atmosphere is very good and chill as well! Giovanna was absolutely lovely. She is very friendly and knowledgeable. We enjoyed getting to know her. I am looking forward to coming back with friends to enjoy some good Italian...
