The shop is small but the unagi don is super delicious, maximum amount of fat in the eel but not a bit greasy. Basically as good as it gets. The old lady, I guess the owner, is super friendly. The other younger lady server was super friendly and energetic too. I wish I knew enough Japanese to understand what they were saying, but from the sound of it, long sentences and all, I can guess they were taking it in a very courteous way. The shop is small and cozy, and feels very much like a small family run place. The only minor gripe is that I wish they offer their higher tier course meal for single customers. Overall a fantastic place to enjoy unagi and the experience is better than other more commercial tourist places.

*Disappointing Dining Experience* We booked the same day around 2pm through our hotel for 6:45 pm dinner on a Friday. We were the only patrons aside from one other couple when we arrived and throughout the session. Service: Overly friendly, but couldn't compensate for the subpar food. Food: Below average. - Unagi (eel) lacked flavor and freshness. - No crispy exterior or juicy interior. Value: Overpriced, with the cheapest meal starting at 6,300 yen. Unfortunately, this restaurant failed to meet expectations. With better options available, I wouldn't recommend it.

This family-operated unagi establishment is one that I will truly cherish in my memories for years to come. The unagi was plump, tender, and perfectly prepared, while the sauce undoubtedly came from a treasured family recipe. Upon stepping into the restaurant, you can genuinely experience the warmth of Japanese hospitality. Even though the staff's English is limited, this does not hinder the experience for foreign customers, as the welcoming atmosphere speaks for itself. This was the beginning of what promises to be a wonderful journey in discovering some of the best unagi. Thank you for the incredible meal. We are already looking forward to revisiting Fukuoka and, most importantly, returning to Unazen.
