Ikedaya 京寿司 お食事処 池田屋 — Restaurant in Furano

There are many great, reasonably priced options for dinner in 富良野... this was not one of them.

The "Zangi" (Hokkaido style battered chicken), which is reliably delicious pretty much anywhere here, arrived dry, lukewarm, and definitely wasn't "Zangi". I would describe it more like microwaved chicken nuggets.

The tempura, another dish which is easy to pull off anywhere, also arrived lukewarm and was underwhelming.

For nearly ¥5,000 for two people and no drinks, I will never come back here.

As for service, the staff saw that my wife and I moved the silly Covid divider... instead of taking the plastic divider elsewhere, they left it awkwardly diagonal on the table while other patrons in the nicer area of the restaurant had no such device blocking their...

This was the place we had a final wonderful dinner as we were leaving Hokkaido the next morning already. It was a great conclusion to our wonderful family trip so far, to be able to fill our tummies with all the different delicious food that was served to us. We enjoyed the novel experience of sitting on small floor cushions surrounding a low table with our legs positioned in the sunken space below the table. Kyosushi Oshokujidokoro Ikedaya, established in 1920, is a historic Japanese restaurant in Furano, Hokkaido. It is famous for its fresh sushi and handmade soba noodles. Tonight, I tried the soba and sushi set, where the sushi was fresh and the soba noodles were firm with a fragrant broth. The tonkatsu rice set was also impressive—the pork cutlet was huge, crispy on the outside, and tender inside. If you’re visiting Furano and looking for classic Japanese dishes, this restaurant is a must-try!
