Senryu — Restaurant in Gifu

My Japanese wife and I were taken here as a Wedding gift in 1987. It was the most fabulous eating experience of our young lives. The food, the service and the hospitality were above and beyond expectation. In the subsequent years we have hosted special occasions with her Gifu based family and were always treated with friendliness, respect and appreciation for our continued patronage. Today we were heartbroken. We hosted a family reunion and my wife and I were severely disappointed. Gone was the friendliness and welcoming spirit that we thought to be a staple of Senryu’s service. Gone was the hospitality. Gone was the banter and interest in us, their guests. The food itself was delicious as always, but for the price you expect delicious food. 予約時は川沿いの部屋がおすすめ。長良川と岐阜城を望む絶景は圧巻で、鵜飼シーズンの夜は迫力ある鵜飼も楽しめます。 鉄板で焼かれる「潜龍牛」のステーキは絶品。ご飯はおかわり自由で、手作りゆかりとの相性も抜群。 旅館風の佇まいで敷居は高そうですが、スタッフは親切丁寧。通し営業なので観光の合間にも利用しやすい名店です。

予約時には必ず「川沿いの部屋」を指定してください。混み合っていると確保が難しいのですが、その価値は十分にあります。全室個室という贅沢な空間から、眼前に広がる長良川と、金華山の頂にそびえる岐阜城という絶景を堪能できます。

昼間に訪れれば、清流と緑の山並みが広がる爽やかな眺望。夜の時間帯なら、鵜飼シーズンには目と鼻の先で繰り広げられる迫力ある鵜飼を眺めながら食事を楽しめるという、ここでしか味わえない体験ができます。

建物は旅館風の格式ある佇まいで、玄関を入ると中居さんに迎えられるため、初めて訪れる際は少し敷居が高く感じられるかもしれません。ですが、スタッフの方々は親切丁寧でとてもフレンドリー。私はこれまで何度も訪れていますが、不快な思いをしたことは一度もなく、安心して過ごせます。

今回いただいた「ロースステーキコース（￥12,397）」は、 •   口取 •   季節のスープ •   サラダ •   ロースステーキ（180g） •   焼野菜 •   御飯（おかわり自由） •   赤だし •   香物 •   シャーベット

という充実の内容。特にステーキは、契約牧場から目利きして仕入れ熟成させた三重県産牛で、松阪牛も含めた上質な肉を独自に「潜龍牛」と名付け、2008年に商標登録したブランド。鉄板で焼き上げられるその旨味は格別です。

御飯は小盛りで配膳されますが、おかわり自由。遠慮せず「大盛りでお願いします」と頼んでみてください。炊き立てのご飯と、添えられる手作り「ゆかり」の組み合わせは絶品です。

さらにありがたいのは、昼から夜まで通し営業をしている点。観光のスケジュールが押して昼食に間に合わない時でも安心ですし、週末など混み合う日は14:00〜17:00の少し遅めの時間に訪れるのもおすすめです。
