Mako and Yasube Seafood restaurant — Restaurant in Hakodate

This eatery was open early at the Hakodate Morning market and I was looking for a place that was serving fresh local squid/cuttlefish as the Hakodate area is known for this specialty.

The squid was fresh, sweet and not slimy at all. It had a nice firm chewy texture that I enjoyed and it contrasted nicely with the soft flesh of the Hokkaido scallops and sea urchin. A great bowl that I immensely enjoyed!

The service was good and you also get a free miso soup...

I appreciate the service there and how they wanted to attend to my wants but I was looking for live squid noodles but seems the Hakodate area all didn’t have any live squid. They offered me frozen live squid to make squid noodle sashimi for me. Shortly after eating it I started having an upset stomach, today is my 4th day of having an upset stomach where I needed to go to a hospital for treatment.

Would not recommend getting frozen live squid in case of...

Tried a eating something different at this morning fish market, and tried the cooked salmon and fish. Very delicious if you want to try something different than the sashimi/raw fish.

Fantastic customer service, and they were extra nice and gave us a little gift (origami) for eating at there shop since we were foreigners. Nothing big, but that feeling of being welcomed feels great.

Will come again if I visit...
