Tatsumi-en — Restaurant in Hakone

We had a great dinner here! The owner was very kind and did her best to communicate with us and explain the dishes.

There is an English menu, but you can always use Google Lens or similar to translate the original menu and I found that that worked well as well.

The food is fantastic and you can see it's genuinely home-made (like, literally. You can see into the kitchen.)

I had the beef don and the BBQ beef ramen. The beef is some of the best I've had in Japan so far, and the seasoning used greatly enhances the taste, without it becoming overbearing. The leftover flavor from the beef made the rice a pleasure to finish as well.

The aroma of the ramen soup is outstanding. It's neither too strong nor too bland, and the beef is a departure from the classic pork ramen.

This is the place to have dinner in hakone! Opens after 6pm. And one of the only places in the area open at this time. Small space but cozy place to have a drink while you wait for dinner. And the food is worth the wait! We had the fried squid. You'll never want to go back to Greek calamari again. We had the hot pot for dinner and it was one of the best soups I've ever had. Hands down! Order is for a minimum 2 people, but it would feed 3-4 no problem. Decently priced as well. Even if your staying in moto hakone it's not to far to walk home after the bus stops running. Located right next door to the restaurant. Lovely older couple (I think) running the establishment which looks like the restaurant downstairs and their home is upstairs. The husband doing the customer service like taking orders and bringing food and drinks to the customers. While the wife is out the back cooking. It felt very homely and you were getting lovely traditional home cooked dishes.
