Today’s lunch took me to GRILL FUKUYOSHI Hiratsuka, a restaurant renowned for its melt-in-your-mouth hamburger steak. With five locations throughout Kanagawa under the same name—and an additional seven outlets operating as specialty hamburger steak restaurants under the “Fukuyoshi” brand—this place truly represents the pinnacle of hamburger steak craftsmanship. For my meal, I chose the 200g “Melt-In-Your-Mouth Hamburger Steak M” with an avocado topping. The dish was presented so beautifully that I couldn’t help but exclaim “Wow!” as soon as it was served. Here, instead of using a knife and fork, the dish is meant to be enjoyed with chopsticks. True to its name, the hamburger steak is so tender that you can easily cut it into bite-sized pieces with your chopsticks. Because the dish is made with freshly ground meat, a slightly rare interior is perfectly acceptable. In fact, if you prefer, you can even have it finished on the griddle to your liking—ensuring that you enjoy it piping hot from start to finish. The moment you take a bite, the juiciness of the meat and the fragrant blend of spices burst in your mouth, releasing an explosion of savory flavor. It truly lives up to its reputation as a melt-in-your-mouth hamburger steak. The secret seems to lie in their unique spice blend. Although it’s impossible to discern exactly what—and how much—is used just by tasting it, I was convinced that this is the kind of hamburger steak any foreign visitor could proudly call “authentically Japanese.” The meal was accompanied by a chicken and onion soup and a salad generously topped with shredded cabbage (and possibly a carrot dressing), offering a refreshing coleslaw-like complement that paired perfectly with the rich meat. But perhaps the best part came after finishing the hamburger steak. The sizzling hot plate, still laden with savory meat juices, was transformed into an impromptu garlic rice dish when an extra serving of rice was added and seasoned with fried garlic and a dash of salt and pepper. I even saved a little bit of the steak to mix into the garlic rice, and together they delivered a 120% satisfaction that left me completely delighted. If you ever find yourself in Hiratsuka, this hamburger steak is an...
Read moreI had the burger, and I was impressed with the size when it came out. Thick cut bacon and a good dollop of melted cheese. Taste was good, not so many fries but that seems par for the course in Japan. Taste was good but it didn’t really fill me up for the price. It is a little expensive. Mrs had the hamburg steak plate and again I thought the portion was quite small for the price BUT then we realised you can get okawari rice which was good for soaking up the meat juices and making a kind of fried rice. There was some dried garlic, salt n pepper condiments which was good to add to the rice. It’s kind of a PITA as the hamburg steak comes out “rare”, but actually it’s basically seared and raw on the inside. You need to cut it into pieces to cook it. The staff wouldn’t leave us alone which was a little annoying…asking if we have been before…we’re adults, it’s a sizzling platter, it’s not rocket science!! Ask if we’re ok once and then leave us alone to eat our food please. Overall I liked the food, it’s a little expensive for what it is but taste is good and I will return….perhaps...
Read moreI had a very hard time deciding between the roast beef, hamburger and hamburger steak. Been a while since I've had roast beef, and the special sauce and rice combination was delicious, but I'd recommend first-timers to start with their signature hamburger steaks. Also a complete side note, their restroom was very spacious and luxurious!
