Hiroshima Hop's — Restaurant in Hiroshima

I enjoy really izakayas done right. Doubly so if you can walk in solo and still have a good time. I had an incredible time.

Unnecessary backstory…my attempt to have an easy night after work at my nearby hotel lounge and bar was met with bitter disappointment. Good news, I ended up here and feel as if I was rewarded by the beer and food on stick gods for my perseverance.

Back to the review… “Hop’s” has the ‘anybody invited atmosphere’, great food line-up and killer beer selection. I say anybody is invited, other than the family of westerners that walked in behind me, it was all Japanese after work crowd. It’s the real deal and knows how to treat its customers of all makes and models.

When we first arrived a waitress crossed her arms and said something about no seating (there were plenty of seats at the bar) which fine. But something felt off to me, however my husband insisted on just waiting outside until a table opened up. Eventually a different waitress came out and was utterly confused on why we were waiting for seats and lead us to a table. I don't think it's some blanket anit-foreigner thing, but it was odd.

Service wasn't exactly spectacular from that point on, but that seems par for the course based on other reviews. Food tasted good and the beer was nice. Not enough to make me want to ever go again, but if you (as a foreigner) catch the right waitress, you'll...

スタッフは人種差別的です！私たちカップルは広島の「HOP’s」で飲み物と食事を楽しみにしていましたが、日本語で2人分のテーブルをお願いしたところ、外で座るように言われました。気温5°Cの夜にです。それなのに店内には空いているテーブルがいくつもありました。最初は店内のテーブルが予約で埋まっているのかと思いましたが、複数の日本人グループが何の予約もなく店内に入って座るのを見ました。その後、別の外国人グループも何も言われずに店内に座れず、空いているテーブルがいくつもあったにも関わらず断られているのを見ました。私たちは英語のメニューを渡されましたが、それでも日本語で飲み物を注文しました。それにも関わらず、ウェイトレスは私たちの食事注文を取りに戻ってきませんでした。私たちは日本語を使って敬意を表しようとしましたが、ここで働いている人々は私たちオーストラリアからの外国人を尊重も受け入れもしませんでした。他のレビューを見たところ、私たちは外のテーブルに座れたのが幸運だったようです。ほかの外国人は単に断られているようです。これは人種差別的で、失礼で、21世紀には全く受け入れがたいことです。

The staff are RACISTS! My partner and I were excited to have some drinks and food at Hiroshima hop’s however after asking for a table for 2 in Japanese we were told to sit outside on a 5°c night when there were several free tables inside. At first we assumed the tables were reserved inside, however we saw multiple groups of Japanese people walk in and get seats inside without a reservation. We then proceeded to see another group of foreigners get turned away even though there were several free tables. We were given an English menu but still ordered our drinks in Japanese however the waitress never came back to take our food order. We tried to be respectful by speaking Japanese however the people who worked here did not respect or accept us as Australian foreigners.
