Yukiboushi Shaved Ice — Restaurant in Hiroshima

One of the lesser known facts about Japan is that it gets HOT! I mean disrespectful, should be illegal kind of hot, the kind of humidity that makes you wish you had never left the car or hotel or house or bed. But nevertheless you have to leave and brave Mother Nature, so I did. I left the confines of the hotel to get the one thing that could cool down my overheating body…kakigori. And from what my local friends say, this is the best Hiroshima has to offer. Surprisingly, the Friday afternoon we visited, there was no line. And even more surprising was that they hadn’t run out of their special limited kakigori, yogurt milk kakigori atop half of a melon. This was magnificent, the condonsed milk and melon syrup were great with the finely shaved ice. Then having the melon was like a second dessert! This is the only way to overcome the heat, with kakigori...

The kakigori here were really disappointing compared to those we've had in other major cities. The flavours were either too bland or too strong (and sauces seemed to be made from jams etc rather than fresh fruit). Despite saying they have an English menu outside, we couldn't find one. With basic katakana knowledge, ordering via the vending machine is easy (and there are accurate drawings of each offering).

The creme brulee was bland and inside was a low quality pudding (too firm). The grape autumn special was decent. The price was far too high for...

昼の12時過ぎに来店したが、すでに10組弱の行列。 店内の待ちスペースは2人分のみでその他の人は店頭で炎天下の中待たなければならない。 やっと店員が出てきたと思ったら整理券を配布。 整理券があるなら満席の時点で配り始めろよと思う。 愛想もあまりよくない女性だった。 整理券の時間に店に戻るとすぐに着席できた。 しかし店内の空調が効いてなさ過ぎてもわっとしていた。 女性客のためなのか、かき氷で体が冷えるからなのかは定かではない。 ちなみにかき氷を食べ終わった後も暑いのに変わりはなかった。 お茶を出してきた若い男の店員も無愛想。 笑顔も声の元気もなくだらだらマイペースに仕事しているようだった。 一方厨房では数人の店員がへらへら笑いながらのんびりかき氷を作っている。 そりゃかき氷一つ注文して出てくるまでに10分も15分もかかるわけだ。 その間にも、整理券を持っていない人たちが次々来店していた。 整理券を貰う人や諦める人様々だったが、整理券を持っていないあるお客さんに「今席が空いているのでご案内します」と。 これでは律儀に整理券を貰っている人の意味がなくなってしまう。 たまたま来たら席が空いていて整理券を貰って何時間も待っている人より先に入店できてしまう制度はいかがなものか。 オーナーは他にバーを3店舗経営しているそうだが、「素人が調子に乗って出店したお店」というのがぴったりなお店であった。 スタッフの教育もしっかりしたほうがいい。 二度と来店することはないだろう。 かき氷はおいしいかったが、それを台...
