My friend and I stopped in on a quiet night in early June. I'm not sure if reservations are normal, but we had none. We were seated at the counter, and given an English menu without even asking.
My Japanese is somewhere between bad and useless, but we even had a brief conversation with the owners. They gave my (more adventurous) comrade a free sample of a fish eggsack when she was caught eating the fish sperm I passed to her.
