Gyorakutei — Restaurant in Ito

My friend and I stopped in on a quiet night in early June. I'm not sure if reservations are normal, but we had none. We were seated at the counter, and given an English menu without even asking.

My Japanese is somewhere between bad and useless, but we even had a brief conversation with the owners. They gave my (more adventurous) comrade a free sample of a fish eggsack when she was caught eating the fish sperm I passed to her.

Our set menus included more regular items, of course. Each was delicious. While it wasn't to my liking, shirako is considered a delicacy, and I appreciate the fact that we got the unadulterated plates.

Gyorakutei (魚楽亭/ぎょらくてい), one of the best spots for local seafood dishes in Ito Onsen! They're lovely family owned and welcoming to foreigners, providing English menus as well. The sashimi set is beautifully presented, you'll especially enjoy their Kaisendon (seafood donburi). The Tempura and sashimi combo, as well as the simmered Kinmedai (Red snapper) and sashimi combo, are also outstanding!
