Umizoi no kikori shokudo — Restaurant in Kamakura

DO NOT GO HERE! Stay away. They didnt update their HANDWRITTEN menu to reflect some of their price hikes of certain items. In my case, they overcharged by a significant amount (not a huge deal per item, but it adds up in the end). Subsequently, they refused to refund the difference and forced me to accept that all sales are final. I insisted on getting the difference back to no avail. Also, they offered NO way to remedy the situation. I can sort of understand that the menu wasnt updated attributed to being “busy”, but to refuse to accept fault and force the customer to pay the difference is misleading, if not fraudulent and gross neglect. Its not the money, its the principle. FYI, IIRC, the place wasnt so busy at the time, so they clearly had the time and bandwidth to address the issue with more professionalism (which was seriously lacking).

FRAUD!!!!!!!!!

PS: The food is below average, if not average, depending on your likes and preferences. Definitely not worth paying extra. Absolutely nothing to applaud except for...

We had an awful experience. Waited for a long time to get in which was OK. Then we got to a table on the terrace that we wanted. We were told to help ourselves to water but there were no glasses.We were given a QR code for a Japanese only menu. We struggled with it and asked for an English one. Managed to order. I had to find a waitress to ask for some water and finally got it. 15 mins later my order arrived. To my surprise the meat was cold. The rice and miso soup were hot and I was very hungry, so I didn't complain. My husband had to wait 20 more minutes for his. They served food on the table next to us and when we asked for our order it turned out it was his food actually. The waitress dumped it on our table and spilled some of the miso soup. His meat was also cold. The only positive thing was the wonderful view and the sunset. We will not visit that...

This gem was a 1 minute walk from the accommodations we booked and we were thrilled about that. The team working was so kind and friendly, speaking to us in both Japanese and English, and went out of their way to get to know us during our visit.

The food was spectacular. The miso (refillable) was so rich and delicious and chockfull of veggies, the whitebait onigiri absolutely perfect. Over our two visits we tried most of the menu and everything was honestly incredible. The cold tofu with chili and green onion? Life changing.
