Regarding the racist complaints by some tourists, if the person felt discriminated, he or she must have a reason to feel so. At the same time, the person may have appeared arrogant to the staff at the coffee shop, too.
I have found racism everywhere. Even the police would not help me, a Japanese person in Europe. I have been exposed to jeering and condescending attitudes in the UK and the US, too. But I got over it by reminding myself that the locals are dealing with their everyday problems, and sometimes they just can’t afford to be patient with tourists.

I clearly said I wanted my coffee "for here" and the racist barista kept saying "take out" "take out" as if they wanted me to leave (for obviously racist and discriminatory reasons) this is the kind of place that makes me wish I had never come to Japan. This is the kind of place that's makes me not want to spend another cent of my money in this city/country. I'm not going to PAY to be treated with disrespect. I'm sure I can be treated with disrespect for FREE in this country....
