We found a wonderful traditional Japanese Kaiseki restaurant, #äŗ¬ęē ę¾ę£ (#Kyo Ryori Matsusho), for lunch. We met the Executive Director, who is a YouTuber (#å°ē¬¹ę£ē¾©) and speaks good English! We had a 6 course meal. The entree is warm ginkgo nuts, well-seasoned sushi rice, and flavorful chicken roll were delightful surprises. The pickled pumpkin was exquisite in both flavor and textureāunlike any pumpkin we've had before. The tofu and mushroom in broth were the highlight of the entree, even Jon enjoyed the tofu!
The sashimi of tuna, herring, and snapper was incredibly fresh. The grilled mackerel with mushrooms was cooked perfectly. The tamagoyaki was tender with the right balance of saltiness and sweetness. The rice, miso soup, and pickles were a great match, especially the high-quality rice cooked with sweet potato, carrot, mushrooms, deep-fried tofu, and crunchy veggies. Ā Ā Ā Read moreA wonderful hidden restaurant! Hidden a within residential area. You wouldnāt think that thereād be a restaurant here. Itās omekase-style restaurant. We were given a private room and the was tranquil.
We walked from the Sagano train station, which took us about 18mins. We arrived just before 2pm, without realizing they were closing but they were so nice and accommodated us.
Food was delicious and we would have enjoyed it more if we had more time! Will definitely visit again and plan better next time we visit. Please also make a reservation.
I especially enjoyed the 3-day miso marinade salmon. Sweet and salty. Umami bomb! Even the bamboo dish was refreshing.
Thank you so much for also sending us to the hozugawa river...
