Golosetto — Restaurant in Kanazawa

I never like to write bad reviews because sometimes people have bad days. But this one I couldn’t ignore the blatant racism we experienced at this restaurant.

My friend and I went to this place because we were wanting amazing pasta with fresh ingredients and it had great reviews!

We arrived around 5:45pm on a Thursday night. Right when we were seated at the back of the restaurant, we were greeted politely from the waiter. Then, when we were ordering from the menu, the waiter very clearly stated that the clams across the menu were sold out - the pasta with clams and an actual clam dish. While we were disappointed and confused (as it was somewhat still early), we quickly accepted it and ordered something else from the menu.

Then, the restaurant started filling up with tables of locals.

As the night went on, we noticed that the other tables were getting served their food first. We didn’t mind, because we were having great convo, but that was something to note.

However, come to our surprise - we noticed the table beside us was having a pasta with clams. We were both perplexed because they came after us and the waiter clearly said it was sold out!

After the bill came, I very calmly just explained the situation and just wanted an explanation of why (and used google translate so there was no misunderstanding). I also wanted to make sure I wasn’t accusing anyone of anything but just wanted an explanation. He very quickly looked very defensive/embarrased/stunned and pretended he didn’t understand and kept saying “no. No. No understand” or something to that sense. I even tried to ask him to speak in the google translate app so he could explain more freely in Japanese but he faked confusion. He then promptly left, and the general manager had to come visit us.

The GM didn’t say much to us after other than there was a misunderstanding and if we were in town another night, which I’m sure they would’ve tried to make amends and serve us clams. Unfortunately we were leaving the next day. But if we didn’t say anything, nothing would’ve been done or said. Just accepted.

Anyway I’m just writing this review for awareness. I just hope this doesn’t happen going forward for anyone else,...
