The Most Wonderful Place on Earth
This place is very heard to put into words because, well… it’s basically indescribable. Sort of like explaining the color magenta to a blind person. But here’s my humble attempt… Imagine a world where you can enter the mind of a man whose love of Rock and Roll has evolved into an all consuming vortex; melding music, light, and spirituality, an occasional motorcycle reference, all combined to form the center of the known universe…. Well, that would be Sturgis Rock Bar. Owned and operated by the venerable Nitta San for the past 25 years, he has lovingly crafted this place into an alter to whatever gods were kind enough to create the music that runs through his blood. You could spend a week here, and still not see all of the eclectic curios and musical memorabilia housed within. Ok, here's the fine print: #1: During your visit to the holy sanctum Nitta San will most likely grab one of dozens of guitars off the wall, step up to the pulpit and perform some songs for you. It will not be the polished garbage you hear on the radio, however, if you open your ears, mind, and spirit, you'll soon realize that sound you hear is flowing straight from the heart of the man. If you are a musician, and you see an instrument you can play, by all means, ask if you can take the stage, and if you'd like Nitta San will accompany you, regardless of what you are playing. #2: Do be aware that there is a ¥1000 yen per person cover charge that will be added to your bill, and that's a pretty fair price to rest your weary soul at the center of...

And then came the music—together with his drummer and bassist, he played with such passion and heart that it was both powerful and deeply moving. It wasn’t just a performance, it was a gift.
Thank you for giving us such a special evening in what I truly believe is the most beautiful country in the world. I’ll always carry this memory with me, and I hope to...
Read moreIncredible and inspiring bar that was a real highlight of our stay in Kanazawa, I would strongly recommend a visit, the cover charge of 1000 yen is very worth it. Look for the guitar outside and ride the elevator up, entering the bar is like stepping into another universe. The owner is a top bloke, made us feel very welcome and gave us some great live music recommendations for our next stop in Osaka. Try out the kaleidoscope and magic glasses, and pick out a live music DVD to blast out. The bar recently celebrated their 31st anniversary; may there be many more! With much love and affection from...
