Hamy’s is actually two places - a cafe (daytime only) and a restaurants. Both allow dogs inside which is unusual in Karuizawa - but with unpredictable weather, it’s definitely welcome.
We went to the restaurant in the evening with our Chihuahua and daughter. Looking at the ambiance of the small restaurant and the prices on the menu, this place seems expensive - but actually it ended up no more expensive than most other restaurants we’d been to in Karuizawa, and the food was far the best we have eaten in Karuizawa. The kids menu was well loved by my daughter and the hotatte main was the best cooked hotatte I’ve had for a long long time - thick, juicy, and melting in the mouth with a flavoursome light sauce. In Japan hotatte is usually cooked in butter and I was glad to taste that this wasn’t the usually buttery hotatte. We also had a half fondue which was perfect size for two when shared with another main dish.

Even though we did not ask for birthday plate in advance (heck, we did not even have a reservation), they provided with a birthday cake with pretty fire cracker. Not to mention, the food they had was just perfect and we had the best time ever. It’s not very normal to see these kind of restaurants to be pet friendly but they were.
