Kumoba Pond — Attraction in Karuizawa

Hi. I'm Dhruv from India. I once visited Karuizawa as a 17 year old on a Joint Family trip, while I was in school in Tokyo one winter.

It's like Hisashiburi. "It has been a long time, my friend". Or Orenkanman in Korean. Kumoba Pond. We have stayed close to it.

It was not a mild winter, or, in Nagano it is cold, and I am not sure. We attended the Hot Springs, with the Orange monkey, and stayed indoors in the Ryokan, and had simple Japanese Fare and watched movies like 'Ocean's 11' (Place your bet*) and 'Schindler's List' and 'Morgan Freeman Freedman' with our sister, but our Japanese sister. She is not a Sheila and most fine :)

They are like our host family, and we have been honoured to host them in India and Gulshan, Bangladesh, in our home, and they also have a home in India. A Kothi. This means 'Mansion'.

It was samui desu ne. Yuki ga furimashita. Tempura Tabemashita.

Visited Kumoba pond on 11 Nov 2022 and we were quite lucky to catch some of the autumn leaves during our short visit there. It’s probably best to check the reviews around the dates you intend to visit because I imagine it might not be really worth a visit in the winter or when the trees are barren. Also, when we were driving, there were some roadworks and the construction workers told us to continue driving us (and didn’t seem to allow us to turn in) so we ended up parking quite a distance away. However as we walked towards the pond we realised the carpark right by the pond was still open for parking! Make sure you double...
