Delicious Japanese meal with excellent service. An English menu was available. My mother and I are both vegan, so we were helpfully offered vegan variations on two of their lunch meals. I chose to have their local "beans and mixed greens" lunch meal (without the dashi-based miso soup) and my mother ordered their "sweet and sour pork and vegetables" without pork. Both of our meals were filling and delicious. I was given a very nice potato puree in place of my soup, and the locally grown rice was tasty enough to eat on its own, definitely the best I've had in Japan so far! & Don't forget to add a pickled plum to enjoy with the rice if you enjoy sour fruits!
My father and brother ordered meat and fish based meals that they both enjoyed very much as well. We also shared the mixed beans side dish, which contained three different types of delicous beans including the large sweet red beans found in many Japanese sweets- a real treat!! Lastly, the blueberry and black cherry vineager soda was perfectly balanced and refreshing.
The service was lovely and the location was convenient yet elegant. Would...
Read moreVery disappointing. We ordered the Tokyo sushi platter and were never told before we ordered that there was no tuna because of the New Years holidays. In fact we were just served the plate of other, less expensive fish (sea bream) with no explanation. It wasn’t until I asked why there wasn’t any tuna on that we were told. Further, we were not given any alternatives such as uni, or salmon or scallop. Evan after I inquired no attentive was offered. I was so surprised, shocked actually. I know that my Singaporean and Japanese friends would never tolerate such treatment. However, because I’m half Japanese I look like a foreigner as does my daughter. I’m wondering if that’s why they tried to treat us so poorly - it’s as if they though they could get away with it. I grew up in Japan and know what the price of fish should be. We were very disappointed and felt that we were intentionally taken advantage of. I will definitely be sharing our experience with my Japanese and Singaporean foodie friends and recommend that they find another place to go and not...
Read moreThe food was delicious in this upscale restaurant in the heart of Old Karuizawa. The 3 bean appetizer, and the raw vegetables with miso dip appetizer were yummy and plenty for 6 of us. Then came our delicious meals of sweet and sour pork with vegetables, beef stew, mackerel fish, miso soup and rice set, and pork shoulder. Everyone was happy with their delicious dinner choices. To top it off we shared amazing Japanese roasted tea crème brûlée. The waitress brought small bowls and spoons so we could all have a little taste. It was excellent fast service in a sophisticated cozy atmosphere. Be sure to make a reservation because it’s popular and fills up quickly. English menu available...
