THE FOOD TRAVELLER REVIEW
Since I went down to Kobe today, the first thing in my mind was to try out the famous Kobe Wagyu. I personally have tried other A5 Wagyu like Mizayaki steaks which made me go Wow.
So, when the shop said they only serve A5 Kobe Beef, it is a definite place to go. I decided to try out different types of cuts to see how good Kobe Beef would be.
Before getting to the food, let's start with the atmosphere. Shop is located near to the train station and right in front of Chinatown. Easily accessible. Though it is not a big place, the layout is quite spacious. Good atmosphere.
Service wise, a staff member was sleeping at one of the dining tables while we and a few other tables are having meals. Though I do not understand perfect Japanese culture, it would be a big NO for me in any business. The staff also failed to clear salad and soup bowls before they served the mains. There were only 2 to 3 tables with 4 staff members for service. So, it is not like a super busy period. Hence, 2 stars for the service.
Now, let's get on to the food. I did not expect A5 Rank Kobe Wagyu would be that bad for some of the cuts. Though the staff mentioned that it might be a bit chewy, but it was actually beyond the chewy state like some of the reviews already mentioned. You would not be able to chew unless you swallow the whole piece in. One of the cuts was even mentioned as Chef's choice which was still chewy. The only cut that is easier to chew would be the cut that costs about USD 100 for 165 gram steak. But that is still nothing compared to other A5 steaks that I had.
In conclusion, maybe I do not understand how the A5 ranks. But if you are not planning to spend around USD 100 per 100 gram steak, you should not visit...
Read moreFor all the right reasons this was one of the most memorable meals I have had. The food blew me away, I’m not really a salad person but I would go there again if they only served salad. The ingredients were so fresh and it was brought to life with just the correct amount of dressing. All served with an artistic flair that made it a treat aesthetically too.
Then I had the Kobe steak. I was on holiday so treated myself to 300gm of what was simply the best steak I have ever had served to me. It melted in the mouth and was perfectly seasoned. The accompanying vegetables and condiments offered a different taste or texture sensation on each mouthful which augmented the steak to bring it to a level such as I have never had before. Absolutely excellent, and I say that without hyperbole.
Finally the friendly and attentive serving staff did their utmost to make sure we fully enjoyed our meal. We even had the pleasure of chatting with the chef so we could thank him personally for such an excellent meal.
I will return here on my next trip. This was one meal where I can say the experience is worth much more than the...
Read moreRelatively expensive but the quality of the food matches the price, I ate the set B meal and was met with a fantastic experience for my first time trying Kobe beef as I got an appetiser, soup and then salad rice and a chef’s special broth to finish it off. My two friends had cuts of beef which were cooked perfectly and presented with a wondrous elegance you would expect at the price point as well as excellent flavour. Service was fast and the servers were fast to respond when we requested a second portion of fries and routinely branch us more water when they saw our glasses ran out without any prompt from us making for a dining experience befitting of my first time trying the coveted Kobe beef in it’s location of origin. Atmosphere in the restaurant is cosy but classy with my only complaint coming in the form of the music played, playlist could do with being quietened, only a touch, and the songs played being more fresh and aligned with the vibe of the restaurant. (The wait for the food was also brief, though we did eat in a quiet period being one of only a few tables in...
