I hate leaving this place a bad review, but there is so much wrong happening at this place. I know we are in Japan, but as other Americans have mentioned, I am insulted about how the USA flag is exploited as a front.
This place almost feels like a set of props you would see at a theatre stage and using an Easy-Bake-Oven to make their donuts.
We purchased the regular glaze and maple bacon(?) donut, but they were so small, dry and flat that we just threw them away. In addition, the prices are incredibly high for the quality.
Also, why are you hanging the USA flag next to the bathroom? That’s so disgusting.
I do notice, after living in Japan for a bit of a while, that most people are not fond of American foreigners but are more than willing to steal our pride and act as they know better than us Americans.
These foreign-based businesses are rude and condescending towards us foreigners, even though they are ripping our culture to make money.
Oh, and WTF… Why are they making Memorial Day donuts? Do they even know the meaning of Memorial Day? It’s not a celebration; it’s a time for remembrance for our fallen heroes in the USA. For example, are you honoring our military, the ones who gave their lives fighting a war against Japan? What is wrong with you people?!! You are using the deaths of thousands of fallen heroes to sell donuts, shame on you!
And like others have mentioned, it is obvious the people who leave high ratings are either the owner's friends or have no idea what a Stateside donut should taste like.
Also, stop spreading fake information about American donuts, we do have larger donuts than the donuts you sell. You are such liars!
Now they are pushing for people to leave fake 5 star reviews, so lame!
This place rips off everything American, even calling one of their donuts “The Simpsons”. I doubt they paid for the copyrights to use “The Simpsons” for marketing.
In addition, they rip off the Muppets now! This place is run by...
Read moreHonestly, I had high hopes for this place, as it is hard to find American-style donuts in Japan. Most donuts in Japan are chewy or cake-like bread donuts.
It is a little walk to get to this place, and you have to walk mostly uphill. Once arriving, the store was empty, as it was a little after lunchtime. The interior is open and has mostly a New York theme.
There wasn't much to choose from, but I decided to get the rainbow sprinkle glaze, cinnamon and the regular glaze donuts. These 3 donuts cost more than buying a dozen in the states. I am not sure; as others mentioned, they only make one batch of donuts and try to sell them all day, which is honestly horrible.
The glazed donuts were small, overpriced, dense, and dry, not even close to an American-style glazed donut. An American glazed round should be light fluffy and filled with a cushion of air as you bite into the donut; this was the complete opposite.
I find it odd how these types of American-themed shops try to act as if they are more American than the American customers visiting the establishment, and it honestly is frustrating. They are not welcoming and have this "I am so cool" attitude as soon as you walk into the door. I noticed this with the barber shop with the same name around the corner. They pretty much exploit the American flag as a theme to attract customers.
I would not recommend wasting your time visiting this place, as it is inconvenient, the product is not an American donut, and highly overpriced.
The people who leave a 5 star rating, obviously have never experienced a genuine good...
Read moreThe double smash burger with cheese (I added an egg for a small charge) was excellent! Though the bun is a donut, it wasnt sweet. The burger was crispy, savoury and I knew I wanted to come back once I bit into it. Its served with pickles and potato chips on the side and it`s a solid 5/5. We also ordered pancakes, which is why we are giving a rating of 4/5 and not 5/5 overall. The pancakes were heavy and the batter was not really tasty, so we would definitely NOT order those again. Dessert was a banana creme filled donut, it was also excellent. It was tasty, just sweet enough, fresh and the creme filling made me smile. So, a wonderful place for lunch, a good location in Kitano and we will be back. As a final note, a drink must be ordered to eat in, though there are some cheap choices. The cafe latte was big by Japanese standards and...
