Came to Akagumi Ramen before heading to Kumamoto Castle, which was an easily walkable distance. It was a good choice. The broth is rich yet rather clean in taste, noodles firmness just right, roasted pork slices tender and delicious, onsen tamago with the yolk cooked just right, slightly transparent like a Ruby. Ordering is easy with Google lens to translate the menu. We wanted to get the gyoza but worried we got too stuffed. This ramen will energize your day and is certainly worth the try. Many locals come to this place to dine even when it had just opened in the morning.

Kumamoto local special black pepper ramen is a refreshing taste, albeit depends on how much you can take the spice. Loads of black pepper on top of the usual charsiu ramen but yet not too overpowering and provides some warmth during the cold autumn/winter months. Their assorted ramen is also a must try and best of it is just 880yen for everything, or 550 yen for basic. The gyoza was so good that we ordered extra at only 280yen for 5 pieces. Service was friendly foreigners despite the small establishment. Who say Japan can't be cheap and good to travel?

Had really value for money and delicious ramen for lunch. They put an every topping for just 880 yen. So worth it. The broth was good rich in flavour but not too heavy it had some sourness I think from the bean sprouts. The chashu was tender and flavourful. However personally I think there’s just to much in one bowl which gives a lot of contradicting flavours and textures so maybe they can put less and charge less. Their fried chicken 🍗 was the absolute bomb because it was crispy and so flavourful. It reminded me of korean fried chicken

There is no english menu but it is fairly easy to order the food by pointing to the photo in google review, thanks to other local guides. The kumamoto ramen is fantastic! The broth is rich flavored and not overly salted. The noodle is cooked just nice. The curry ramen is good too but it mayb too hot and spicy for others. I ordered the fried dumplings too and it is also good. Highly recommended and i would say the kumamoto ramen is a must eat food when u visit Kumamoto.

Good value ramen joint with simple menu. Go jus 15mins before meal time and there were no queue and we got a seat right away. Free drinking water, and until 8pm they hv promotion: 300yen for draft beer with ramen order. Organized, feel clean and friendly but prompt service. Will go again, taste very good. Broth is thick but not as greasy, a bit on salty side, like any other ramen. Ramen is around 480-700++ yen. Menu in english is available. Kumamoto ramen is my fav.

Lively atmosphere. The staff are energetic and high spirited. English menu is available and provided proactively the moment the staff see me trying to Google translate the menu :) service is fast. One of the few restaurants that open late in the vicinity. The Kumamoto ramen is good. I especially love the flavoured egg. The gyoza is a miss for me, it's not bad but you could give it a miss if you have limited stomach capacity.
