Kumamoto Castle Park (Ninomaru Hiroba) — Attraction in Kumamoto

One of the best castle experiences I've had in Japan. It's a shame that the 2016 earthquake destroyed the castle, but they have turned the tragedy and reconstruction into an evolving experience. As of March 2021 they have fixed a great deal for the damage, but you can also see how much extensive damage still exists.

The park is amazing and beautiful with new structures allow people to walk around the ninomaru and get fairly close to the honmaru. There is a new museam detailing the history of the castle and the damage and reconstruction.

Very big and beautiful park. While we were there there was some festival on. There was a concert and also a samurai display. They were shooting old style guns, this was very impressive.
