We stumbled upon this newly opened Sukiyaki restaurant near Fushimi Inari Taisha, and I must say, the experience was both unique and memorable. The restaurant had a warm, modern interior with touches of traditional architecture, which immediately set a cozy yet refined atmosphere. We were the only customers at the time, so it felt like a private dining experience, made even better by the attentive service. The owner spoke some English, and with the help of Google Translate, communication was smooth.
Now, onto the food: we ordered two sets of sukiyaki and two raw beef bowls. The Wagyu beef was grilled beautifully in front of us, served with a unique whisked egg sauce to dip the beef into, which was later mixed with rice—a dish known as Tamagokake. The presentation was elegant, and everything was prepared with care.
That said, while the beef itself was of high quality, I found that the egg sauce, once mixed with the rice, diluted the flavor of the beef. The seasoning didn’t fully infuse into the sauce, leaving the final dish a bit underwhelming in terms of depth. However, the stock served at the beginning was well-seasoned and a great way to start the meal. It's clear that the chef put thought into the preparation, but for my taste, the balance of flavors didn’t quite hit the mark.
Overall, the experience was delightful, with excellent service and a welcoming atmosphere. If you enjoy a twist on traditional sukiyaki, it’s definitely worth a visit, though the flavors might be a bit subtle depending on...
Read moreAmazing culinary experience - one of the main highlights in our recent Japan trip! Highly recommended especially after a long day going around Fushimi Inari temple.
The owner was very friendly and really made an effort to keep us entertained and comfortable. He even personally cooked for us!
As for the meals itself, it was quite an experience as they cook top quality A5 Wagyu beef in front of you. Literally melts in your mouth! It comes as a meal including the rice, pickled dish, broth and an egg where you dip the meat. Highly recommended!
Just make sure you get the directions right as you need to go into a small alley - it's tucked nicely in its own corner away from the temple...

We had a nice time for the short time while we were here, and the food tasted okay. We were encouraged to order the wagyu raw beef don, and when we expressed hesitation, the staff assured us that it was safe to eat. We ordered sukiyaki as well. Those who ate the sukiyaki were alright, but we've never had such a horrific food poisoning experience -- began throwing up within 15 mins after the meal. Absolutely ruined our trip. I would not recommend it to anyone!
Also, this store doesn't provide you with water to drink, claiming they don't have filters....
