Walking down the iconic Ninenzaka, with its streets lined with historic Japanese-style buildings, I stumbled upon this little shop by chance as the smell of fresh apple pies baking was irresistible!

As someone who’s absolutely obsessed with cinnamon, anything apple-cinnamon is an instant yes for me, so naturally, I had no choice but to stop and try one of these pies. While I was tempted by the Uji Matcha Cream Apple Pie (because I was on a mission to consume all the matcha in Kyoto), I ultimately went with the classic Apple Custard Pie - I didn’t want to ruin the true apple pie experience.

What I loved was that they fill the pies with cream on the spot, ensuring everything is fresh. I requested less cream, as I didn’t want to overindulge, and it turned out to be the perfect choice.

The apple pie itself was absolutely delicious! The crust was super flaky with a satisfying crunch, and the filling was warm and comforting. The custard cream wasn’t overly sweet, which allowed the flavours of the apple pieces to really come through.

I’m glad I asked for less cream, as I think a heavier filling might have overwhelmed the pie’s delicate balance.

If you’re wandering through Ninenzaka, I’d highly recommend stopping by for an afternoon snack. There may be a line, but it moves quickly - and trust me,...

Our family ordered 2 pies with different flavors, with the intention of sharing together, but because it was written that each person must order at least 1 piece, after ordering, we ate outside the shop, not inside the shop, so we should have been able to eat comfortably. However, the shop staff immediately brought a broom and swept in front of us because a small piece of cake fell.

Are these staff members native Japanese or workers from outside Japan who do not know manners, because people who were eating were chased away with brooms and dustpans, even though we were not allowed to eat in the shop.

The taste of the cake was very ordinary and not delicious at all with an exorbitant price!

It is really embarrassing that your service, which should be in a tourist spot visited by tourists from outside Japan, should reflect the face of Japan, but the service of this shop does not reflect the face of polite and good...

The WORST customer service and the apple pie wasn't worth it! Lady at the counter would not let us sit down in the restaurant because we only ordered one apple pie to taste. It's not like we were going to stay there all day. We just wanted to sit and share that apple pie that wasn't even worth it. She and that store is GREEDY. All the want is your money. There are plenty of other places there that are NICE and let you sit to eat the food you bought from them. THIS PLACE IS...

I bought the lemon pie instead of the apple pie because I love lemon-filled pastries. There was no queue, and I was served politely and kindly. It turns out the lemon pie is served cold — they don’t heat it up. The pie was delicious, and the lemon cream had just the right balance: not too sour, but not overly sweet either. By the way, this lemon pie isn’t part of the regular menu, so if you’re a lemon lover, it’s a must-try!
