Absolutely loved it! One of the best, most fresh feeling ramen dishes I have ever tasted. Located at the end of an alleyway on a busy street near Yasaka Shrine tourist hotspit, this small diner is truly a hidden pleasure in Kyoto. They accept both cash and credit card and offer WiFi.
The food is simply amazing. The broth is made of beef bone stew and is being served with small pieces of lime, lemon and lemongrass which gives it a truly refreshing taste.
The portions are of fair size, not too small but also not so big that you cannot finish it.
The staff is very kind and attentive, they also speak and understand basic English, which is nice for tourists such as myself.
When we arrived on a Wednesday afternoon the diner was nearly empty. I'm not sure if this place accepts reservations.

Read moreOur family from California discovered Ichiren last year via Google Maps so it was time that I pay it forward with a review. We came back to Japan again this year and one of the must do’s was to eat here again. We craved the ramen here for a whole year! We came back twice this time, on the first day we arrived and on the last day before we left. Safe to say this is our all time favorite ramen spot. Not only is the ramen the best here, the owner is so warm and welcoming (she remembers from last year!). We also love the atmosphere, it’s relaxing and not cramped. We don’t normally like to repeat foods when we travel but we would come back here again and again. We will miss it so much and we look forward to the day we will...
Read moreI tried their Sara broth (six type of fish blend) with hosomen. Wife tried Ichiren (pork and chicken). Both broths incorporate yuzu citrus flavours. It's both savoury and tangy, delicious but not too intense thanks to the citrus.
I finished all my soup. Noodle texture is nice too. My wife requested a second serving of broth and finished everything.
They also accept credit card payment in case you forgot to bring cash (like me - it is a long way back to the nearest ATM/hotel)
Portion is not too filling - which is just right for this dish as you want to enjoy the flavour and not be too full.
Price is very reasonable - 1100 yen per bowl
Why don't they have a michelin star? (They...
