Incredibly Friendly Staff in the Perfect Location with Tremendous Rooftop View We spent four early June nights in Kyoto, and Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninensaka was our favorite place of the four we stayed in Japan. The view from the rooftop alone is worth staying here. Shuta and Haru were a highlight of our stay. They were both so friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations and assisting with booking taxis. Shuta and Yoshi made us fantastic Japanese breakfasts, making our mornings truly delightful. This is the perfect spot to view the Yasaka Pagoda and enjoy peaceful walks in the early morning or around sunset after the crowds have left. One night around 8pm I even came upon a film crew shooting a scene there and they kindly let me pass through after a few minutes of waiting. The location is also ideal for visiting Kiyomizu-dera, which is just a 15-minute walk away. We loved visiting early in the morning before the crowds arrived. I had no idea how popular this area was and how conveniently close we would be—a mere 3-minute walk—from the historic Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka paths, filled with food and shopping options. Perfect spot and I couldn’t recommend it more.

If you're looking to experience something a little more traditional in Kyoto, then Kyo no Yado is perfect! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful regarding any questions you have. They all speak enough English to get around so don't feel too pressured or shy when talking with them! In addition, they are incredibly punctual with email replies the moment you book with them. They provide breakfast (when requested the day before at cost of course) and they have their own recommendation list from restaurants to landmarks in Kyoto to check out. Plus, you can leave and come back any time of the day (did a day trip to Nara and back without worrying about getting back inside). Ideally, it's smart and recommended to catch and get dropped off by Uber/Taxi at a main street nearby as the street is very tight; however, it is a prime location for pictures. You can enjoy the infamous Yasaka Pagoda down the street (literally) and much more seen in the pictures provided. Lastly as mentioned by others, the street itself is very quiet with it being right around the corner from a landmark, so you'll get that well needed peace and quiet. Keep up the great work!

We had such a wonderful time staying at Kyo no Yado Sangen Ninenzaka ryokan and highly recommend it to anyone wanting a traditional Japanese ryokan stay in Kyoto! It was so special being able to sleep on the tatami mats (best sleep I’ve had in Japan so far), the rooms and facilities were clean and comfortable, and the service from the ryokan staff was second to none. In particular we’d like to express our gratitude and thanks to the male staff member who was so generous, provided us with delicious breakfasts, and was just super thoughtful and kind (such as giving us hand warmers for cold days). It was also lovely being able to stay in the Ninenzaka area and to be able to wander through the streets at our leisure and have that be the backdrop for our visit to Kyoto. We also enjoyed the amazing view from the Ryokan’s rooftop. Thank you to Kyo no Yado Sangen for a truly memorable experience and we look forward to being back one day!

We still think about this hotel. We loved staying here. We stayed only for one night in this traditional japanese Accommodation, and so glad we did. Our hosts were friendly, helpful and polite and seemed genuinely interested in us and our visit to Japan. Breakfast was amazing. Tradional Japanese breakfast. The room we had was lovely as well. It had good storage cupboards and also a fridge, water and tea. We had japanese robes and 'PJs' available in the room too. There was more amenities in the room than we expected which was a lovely surprise. The floors seemed to have two rooms which shared a shower room and their were two toilets. There are also two japanese style baths on the top floor which you book in for. Our host was very accommodating in getting us a time slot as we were only staying one nght. ||The location is great for sightseeing. It is a little far to walk with cases from the train station so we got a cab which was easy and a good price. For sightseeing you are right there, next to the main steps and close to shops and tea ceremonies. There is also a tour bus which runs like a regular bus which you can pick up to take you around. ||All in all our Hosts made this feel like a home and even though it was one night, it felt like we stayed with friends, and we would...
