Shop #49: Why Would You Eat Mexican Food in Kyoto?

We have been traveling in Japan for a while and missed Mexican food since we are from California. When we had a bite of their guacamole and salsa with chips, we were in heaven. This restaurant makes their own hot sauce and it complimented the dish very well. You can even buy their hot sauce. We had a beef taco, shrimp taco, and a few other dishes. Everything was tasty. Comparing with American serving size, the portions were smaller but we truly enjoyed our dinner. They asked us to order one drink each, which is not a rare practice in Japan, so we all ordered juice since we don't really drink. The price was reasonable and the atmosphere was very welcoming. We will definitely be back when next time we visit Kyoto.

Stumbled upon this place and did have any expectations. Glad we did ! Authentic delicious tacos. Homemade hot sauces which were a great addition to the tacos. We saw many of the customers ordering the steak dish which looked amazing. Unfortunately it was sold out when we came in towards the end of the day. We plan to visit again just to taste the steak. Cheesecake for dessert was 10/10. Good place for drinks/food with friends. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly good Mexican / Spanish food. We had the chips, guac and salsa, ham, gambas al ajillo, and fajitas. Couple glasses of Cava and Verdejo. Everything good! The fajitas are closer to carne asada. A little scant on the veggies. They don't seem to get the importance or nuance of tortillas in soft or hard form. I'd give another star for that. I imagine that tortillas are a little hard to come by in Kyoto, therefore they would need to make their own. All things considered, it was the best Mexican/Spanish I've had in Asia so far and really hit the spot. Nota bene: I haven't bothered very often, since the local cuisine is so great and I've had so much bad Mexican food outside Mexico and certain parts of the USA. They serve Cholula (one of my faves), and the owners also make their own hot sauce which is not only an admirable effort, but pretty tasty as well. I wanted limes and tortillas. The fact that's my only real complaint says...

Hotel was a block away, I wanted a beer, I went inside. Staff were super friendly and so were the patrons as one of the customers felt bad I was drinking alone and bought me a beer. Stayed for 2 hours and had a fantastic time. The grilled skirt steak is exceptional. Beer selection is great and the bar is hopping all the way till close. Went back two nights later to have another good time. 10PM and this place is hopping. Highly recommended. I also don’t get the foreigner thing as they have been nothing but nice to me since I walked in the door. So very happy I found this place, what a great place to unwind. As others have said, try the...
