We spent two nights at the Mitsui Garden Hotel Kyoto Sanjo this week. ||Overall, it was a positive experience. We arrived early and couldnโt not check in but the front desk staff happily held our bags while we set off to explore. When we arrived, all our bags had been taken to our room, which was nice. Walking into our room, it was super hot and humid, we couldnโt sort the A/C unit and the front desk staff came up with me immediately to show me how it worked. ||Somehow, despite all my reading. I had not envisioned Kyoto as the massively large city that it is. The hotel is located a bit out of the way of most things but is only a three minute walk from a subway station, and only 3 stops from Kyoto station which makes for easy transfers. There is a 7-11 right across the street which we used for bottled water, breakfasts and snacks. We didnโt eat at the hotel itself so cannot comment on the food there.||As far as the room itself goes, it was small but clean. The bathroom was small but functional. ||Overall, we had a pleasant, two night stay. I would choose this hotel again if I wanted to be in the Sanjo...
ย ย ย Read moreWe took the Shinkansen from my daughter's home in Tokyo to explore Kyoto for a day and evening. Our future in-laws wanted us to experience a nice Japanese hotel with an onsen and treated us to a night at Mitsui Garden. This hotel was very convenient to all the sites in Kyoto, but was off the main road and had a very lovely entrance and lobby. We had a little scare upon check in since some of our family traveling from the US had left passports at my daughter's home, but the front desk staff courteously worked with us on a solution: providing a photo copy. This hotel is exceptionally clean and quite beautiful. The rooms were the most spacious of any hotel we stayed in Japan. There was a huge and delicious selection of breakfast options. I would highly recommend staying here for a more traditional and enjoyable hotel experience. I later read online that tattoo covers are acceptable for the onsen, but didn't know this at the time, so those of us with tattoos did not get to enjoy the onsen during our stay, but I would still rate our experience...
ย ย ย Read moreI booked this hotel as part of our Japan trip. We visited Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. This was our 2nd hotel on the trip. In general, it was our 2nd favorite hotel.||Location - central to many things. It's just a simple subway station away from Kyoto station. We took the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Kyoto and a subway ride to this hotel.||Rooms - older and definitely could use some updates. We booked a 4 person room and it was a good size. The room had 4 twin beds. The one complain was that the restroom had an unpleasant smell.||Onsen - it's very small and the showers are just part of the onsen room. This makes it very crowded. i only used it once.||Breakfast - this was the star of the hotel. They serve a little bit of Japanese and Western offerings. This breakfast had the host Japanese offerings of all of our hotels. We really enjoyed the breakfast here. They even had a coffee machine that offered espresso or lattes.||Overall, I'm not sure I'd book here again because of the condition...
