I highly recommend this experience to everyone! There are many places where you can simply make and drink matcha, but this is not just a surface-level activity. Here, you can deeply learn about the spirit of the tea ceremony and the mindset behind it how to face things mindfully and cherish the present moment. It made me want to live each day with more care and intention. The host Yuko is amazing! She welcomed us warmly and explained everything with great care. It was a truly peaceful and meaningful hour that helped me step away from the rush of daily life and feel calm inside. Of course, making and drinking matcha was fun too! If you want to learn about Japanese culture and the deeper meaning of the tea ceremony,I highly recommend visiting this place when you come to Kyoto. They also sell matcha, tea whisks, and the others at the shop.

My First time in Japan, first time in Kyoto. I was only in Kyoto an hour and half and had the tea ceremony class booked previously as wanted to jump into a cultural experience. It gets booked quickly so ensure to buy your tickets. I went solo, there were other solo travellers and couples so it doesn’t matter who you come with. Very detailed explanation of the history without being boring. Very interesting. Amazing peaceful zen experience watching our Tea Master doing each step in the demonstration. It fully calmed me which is what the tea ceremony is about, being present. Highly recommend as part of your Kyoto experience. Bring socks if you’re wearing sandals, near the station. Be quiet during the demonstration. It’s well worth it. Great memory for me.

Wonderful experience -Yuko is definitely a tea expert and so good with explaining history/meaning and instructions -she presented fabulously this beautiful tradition -she is patient, so accommodating, super friendly -We got to watch the tea ceremony and then do it ourselves so got to drink matcha tea twice which many places do not do -And the sweets were beautiful and delicious best we’ve had in kyoto -Facility and tea room was clean and immaculate -We will come back for the sake experience - It was a short walk for us as we stayed near Nijo castle TIP: Google maps will take you to smaller street on the corner - stay on main street and look for green matcha ice cream cone in front
